3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, by Nov 11, and they don’t say they use any wheat. Nose is lightly citric and damp, pale malt and a little creamy vanilla. Clear golden pour with a sudsy bright white head. Semi-sweet and malt, light body isn’t so much watery as it is incredibly juicy. Soft with a touch of tang and extremely low bitterness. (Palate) cleansing, though it seems as if there’s a touch of concrete dust scraping the back of my throat by the time I finish. Leaving Kölsch territory and venturing into the Land of Helles.

Dank an Kölschtrinker für diese Flasche!
In der Nase hopfig-herb, leicht metallisch. Im Mund überraschend malziger Grundton, dem einige Hopfentöne auferlegt sind. Perlig. Malziger, minimal süßlicher Ausklang.
Weiches und gut schmeckendes Kölsch. Angenehm zu trinken. Test vom 2.12.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
500ml Bottle. Appearance is golden, straw yellow with light, somewhat fizzy head. Aroma is pleasant with fruit and mild grains. Taste is somewhat subdued - relatively less grain and wheat flavors for a Kölsch. Mostly fruity sweetness with grain malts underneath. Virtually no hop bitterness to speak of. Palate is light- to medium-bodied, fine texture, somewhat watery, average carbonation, and a sweet finish.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Light golden, very small and fully diminishing head. Light to moderate, malty and sweetish aroma, faint grassy hoppyness and bread. Body is light medium, malty and lightly sweetish flavor, faint grassy hoppyness and bread. Finish is short to average, malty and lightly sweetish, faint grassy hoppyness. Watery kölsch – that’s it.

Frischer, leicht getreidig-malziger Antrunk. Gerste, wenig herb, angenehme Hopfung. Frisch, sehr süffig durch die feine Karbonisierung. Etwas trockener Abgang. 11/12/13/12//12

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
My Bottom Line :
Elegantly honeyed malt crackers are balanced out by light spicy hops and their bitterness in this crisp Kölsch.
Further Personal Perceptions :
-A veil of foam tops the clear golden.
-The prickly natural carbonation and svelte mouthfeel make for supreme drinkability.
-I was told this was the only unbunged (ungespundet) Kölsch, by the way.
-This Kölsch does not stand out from the crowd in Köln because of its flavor profile, but its integration of all ingredients in the flavor profile does make it better than the sum of its parts and it thus becomes one of the city’s best, imho .
-The aroma is a tad deficient compared to the flavor profile.

1.5 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
(50cl bottle, BB 31.01.11, courtesy of blutt59) Light yellow. Smells a little skunked/ sulfury- like a bad Corona. Taste has some malt to go along with the Cornona taste. Not great though.

From barrel at the gaststätte
Blond color, with the usual fluffy head of Kölsch. Body, mouthfeel, aroma, flavor... it’s a light beer, evident in all components; the bitterness is quite low. No flaws, no unpleasant flavors of corn, but indeed very simple.
