COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Schremser Roggenbier is the rediscovery of a beer speciality, which was traditional up until the 15th century when it was then banned. Top-fermented, Schremser Roggen stands out due to its intensive full-bodied taste. Slightly fruity to start then pithy with a long aftertaste. 11.9°

Keg at The Draft House, Tower Bridge, London. Gold with slight head. Sweet, slightly sicky note with a flowery, rose petal background. Somewhat overpowering on the palate. Not really my sort of beer.

invinoveritas (39) - Greater Manchester, ENGLAND - FEB 10, 2012
Brilliant golden, with a restrained, swiftly dissipating head. Rich, malty aroma, with barley, malt and non-astringent grain on the taste. Rich, almost creamy mouth feel, with a pleasant but indistinct bitterness. Plenty of pepper on the back of the throat. Not too sweet, supremely balanced - a quaffable beer.

Leighton (11824) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 10, 2012
Bottle at the Vienna airport, on the sly, poured sneakily into a glass borrowed from the nearby McCafe. Pours a mostly clear gold with a fine, white head. Bread and faint toast in the aroma. Light sweet flavor, faint tang to the malts suggesting poor condition. Some leaves and mild, toasty wood. Light to medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Dry, leafy bitter finish, some dry toast and light tang. This one isn’t great, but it could be an unfresh bottle. Yeah, dome dry and woody bitterness lingers. Kind of dire.

Bottle. Murky amber color, small white head that settles quickly. Aroma of feet, and liverwurst on rye. Taste is slightly sour, rising bread dough and light spice. Intriguing.

Bottle. Cloudy brown with a thin foam. Aromas are bready yeast with caramel and rye. Nutty with banana and stewed pear. Flavours are fruity with autumnal apple and pear. Caramel with yeast and light lemon. Spicy and medicinal. Not bad.

33cl Bottle. Appearance is hazy, copper-orange color with quickly dissipating, off-white head. Some floating sediment is also evident. Aroma is fairly complex with roasted grains dominant as well as sweet caramel and medicinal herbal flavors. Taste is grainy with rye and wheat most noticeable along with a slight sweetness followed by an even stronger herbal bitterness. Palate is medium-bodied, full mouthfeel, smooth texture, very little carbonation, and a dry finish.

SheffieldSteel (115) - St Nikolai im Sausal, AUSTRIA - SEP 22, 2011
UPDATED: NOV 9, 2012 33cl Bottle. Strong grassy aroma. Appearance is cloudy gold and lightly carbonated (a less cloudly Zwickl), Taste is good to very good, with the rye malts standing out and with an almost beetroot taste, or even carrot juice, but not over-powering. Palate is good, bitter, malty and moresome. An impressive beer all-round.

Green glass, mindestens haltbar bis 03.09.11, from back on 25 May 2011. Nose is grassy with a relatively complex malt profile for type, also a little green. Hazy copper body with a sudsy beige head. Bitter with nice dark rye notes but bright and punchy mineral tones in equal measure. Crisp medium body edging toward full. Some mildly muddy caramel / Dunkelweizen notes but still has mild citrus and noble hop contributions, aboids the sin of scratchiness. Might enjoy more with volume, seems to be well-made with a good recipe.
