COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Schuppenaas (Ace of Spades) is our fourth beer named after playing cards. For this beer we are obviously inspired by the great "Orval". We use a different yeast for the first fermentation but like Orval the second yeast strain is a Brett. For Hops we chose this time for Tomahawk and Simcoe. Additional Simcoe is added as dry-hopping.

Bottle 33cl. Dark orange with a huge off white head that stays on. Aroma of malts and orange peels. Taste starts with a sharp bitterness but after a while it turns very IPA like. The taste of citrus fruits is also present. Quite good!

Bottle from ABC Beers. Gushed absolutely everywhere! I’m not well pleased. Poured a hazy medium amber with a huge frothy white head. The aroma is dry, light brett, citrus hop. The flavour is moderate to strong bitter with a big hoppy bitter, yeast, citrus palate and a bubbly mouthfeel. Medium bodied with lively carbonation and a lingering bitter finish. Not bad, but I only got to drink half the bottle!

Bottle. Clear orange pour, huge foamy white head. Aroma is fruity and spicy, some licorice and slightly earthy. Flavor is quite bitter and spicy, thick malts and with a decent body. Well balanced. Not that much like Orval, but still a nice brew.

Interesting ’wild ale’ with thick and stable, cream white head and misty orange blonde robe. Aroma reveals dry-hopping, pine needles, peach, leathery Brett, apple peel, rose petals, dried orange. Crisp fruity onset with refreshing citrus touch, flowery, smooth with honeyish malt sweet accent, long hop bitter finish with bone dry Brett effect. Acceptable as a tribute to Orval, I guess.

Amber coloured beer with a huge, fluffy white head. The aroma is fresh, hoppy and has soms hints of citrus. Fresh and hoppy taste, very lively with alot of carbonation and a bitter aftertaste. (Bottle 33cl)

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Hogerdijk, Culemborg. Hazy amber with a big lacing white head. Fruity hoppy aroma with some Brettanomyces. Taste and aroma really reminds of Orval although the Schuppenaas is a bit sweeter.

0.33L bottle. Pours hazy orange with a huge, rocky white head that leaves tons of lacing. Aromas are lots of citrusy and floral hops, and some sour aromas (almost like sweet tarts). Flavor is dominated by hops: lots of citrus. Nice bready malt character coming through, then transitions to sour notes along with some soy sauce, but still, lots of hop flavor. Finishes with lots of herby hops that linger for a long time, a bit ascerbic (popperings?). Medium-light body with a slick mouthfeel and active carbonation. Overall, nice hop aromas, mild malt, so not that well-balanced, and overly carbonated, but still, quite tasty.

Bottle @ home. I expected a black beer, but it’s actually amber with a fairly chunky and large white head. Smells slightly leathery, horseblanket, some malts, brett. Tastes malty, sweetish, some brett, quite fresh. It’s a decent beer that I’ll probably never drink again. Medium body, active carbo but not bothering me.

330 ml bottle. Amber with beige head. Aroma of malt, biscuit, chlorine and some spice. Taste is spicy, rye, malt, bread and some light dried fruit notes. Interesting
