COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Schuppenaas (Ace of Spades) is our fourth beer named after playing cards. For this beer we are obviously inspired by the great "Orval". We use a different yeast for the first fermentation but like Orval the second yeast strain is a Brett. For Hops we chose this time for Tomahawk and Simcoe. Additional Simcoe is added as dry-hopping.

Bottle: Cloudy, orange-amber with a huge, beige head. Dark, spicy yeast aroma....fruit. Tart, earthy yeast flavours..caramel, citrus...grapefruit. Very busy and complex mix.....just doesn’t have any balance and doesn’t go anywhere in particular.... Plus, I wouldn’t place it anywhere near the amber ale category.

Bottle. Pours a slightly cloudy gold/amber color. Modest foam head. Strong yeast aroma, almost resembles oregano. Undertone of brown sugar, salty peanuts, condiment. Taste is sour and very (very!) bitter, resembles zucchini. Gentle undertone of citrus and pines. Large bitterness in the aftertaste. Interesting, but it will not turn into a regular for me.

Starts with a big head.... but then.. gone is the foam. Nice amberbeer! Hoppy, great balance of spices and nice to have some good american (?) hopflavours in an amber beer!

33 CL bottle. Pours nicely, large white head quickly diminishing. Slightly sour aroma but correctly placed ( ie intentional ). Lovely amber-orange colour. Taste is slightly sweet to start but soon becomes bitter with a flowery, orange background. Medium palate with a long, dry, bitter finish. Overall a fine beer. I have seen this described as an Orval clone and that is not far off. Shame I only have one bottle - I quite like this and would have another.

Bottle as rail soda, courtesy of deanso. Pours a hazy amber beer with a massive white head on top. Very firm head. Aroma is rather yeasty, bready and even has some tarty touches to it. Flavor is quite bitter, cookie, earthy and a bit messy. Too much yeast in there to be honest. Quite decent.
