COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Man, running the guet na ... ... exclaimed the young Bräumeister Joseph Ott as he tasted in 1906, the first shot Rieder Pils. A few months earlier, he had once taken to the monastery Schussenried owned brewery. This saying applies to Oberschwaben even today, if the speech is from the scene Rieder beer.

It’s slightly golden with a creamy head. The aroma has notes of malt, flower, and slightly perfumed hay. The flavor has a light sweetness and notes of malt, bread, light hay and flowers. The finish is slightly dry.

33cl bottle that states simply “Pils” and doesn’t look like either picture on the ratebeer beer’s page. It pours with a crystal clear gold body that supports a semi creamy thin white head of foam. The aroma offers up malt sweetened bready doughy lime citrus notes as well as a bit of spicy, herbal and floral hops. The taste begins neutral with a murmur of malt sweetness and then it builds in hops and hop bitterness where I’m getting spicy hops, herbal hops and green earthy bitter lime like notes. It plateaus out for a moment heading into the finish as it gets a little softer and picks up a slight grainy malt sensation. It ends with lingering thin malty sweet bitter hops as well as a faint mineral note. Decent.

Pale golden color with a medium white head. Aroma is quite sweet, malty and grainy, slightly notes of herbal hops. Flavor is like aroma. Medium body and medium carbonation with a nice bitter finish.

Bottle looks very simple but okay. Beer in the glass zippy, small head. Starts malty, mild, a bit metallically, not very dry. Finish again milder, almost washy. Nothing special.

330ml bottle. Clear golden colour with average to huge, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Grassy hop aroma, grainy and slightly strawy background, a touch of peanut curls. Taste is initially minimally sweet pale malty, cautiously fruity, hoppy middle part, bitter hoppy finish, again a touch of peanut curls.

This was another beer I found in Hall 12 (German breweries and food to eat with beer) during the 2014 Berlin Green Week: the brewery had a small bar within the hall, just like about 30 others. 0.3 litres on-tap, pale golden body with a white crown, clear, clean and bright: everything a typical German Pilsner should be. The aroma is weak, again very typical of the style: this one leans towards a grainy, semi-sweet smell. The taste follows along those lines with a dry hop undertone arriving strongly towards the end of each sip. OK, but so, so similar to all the other Pilsners I sampled on the day (and before, etc, etc): good solid beer without any special attributes to set it apart from it’s fellow Pilsners.

Bottle. Light golden, small to average and fully diminishing head. Light to moderate malty - lightly grainy and lightly sweetish aroma, faint hoppyness. Body is light to medium, malty - lightly grainy and lightly sweetish flavor, light grassy hoppyness. Finish is average, malty - lightly grainy and lightly sweetish, light herbal - grassy hoppyness. OK (bit thin) pils - not too sweet/grainy, but really nothing to stand out from the crowd.

330ml Flasche. Ins Glas ergießt sich ein klares goldgelbes Bier mit geringer Schaumkrone. Geruch hopfig, grasig, leicht metallisch. Geschmack hopfig, grasig, würzig, im Hintergrund leicht metallisch.

Bierkrug (2133) - - MAY 3, 2011
330 ml flip-top bottle in Germany at home. Is a clear pale gold color with a nice white head. Aroma is sweet, with hops, and some nice spices coming through. Taste is mellow for a Pils. Has sweetness and some neat spices. Palate is also mellow. Too sweet for a Northern Pils but along the lines of a Southern one.
