These little cheat sheets for us drinkers are invlauable. With such a relatively unknown beer such as a landbier in this country one wouldn’t now what to expect. From the description the intial slight ffffft when cracked caused me no concern. This pours well into the glass with a slight haziness and light biscuity colour, reminiscent of mum’s butter cookies. The nose is simliar with a touch of wheat and maltiness. I enjoyed the lack of carbonation in this beer and the ease of it going down, due largely to the fact that this was the first beer after a day in the sun that had me waterproofing a deck area. After 12 hours most beers would have been good but I was pleased with the softness and smoothness of the beer as it slid (quickly) down.

Bottle -- Yippee, a beer style I’ve never had before! A yellowy gold with suspended yeast and not a lot of carbonation. A medium rocky white head with not a lot of retnetion, although it never completely disappears, but quite a lot of lacing. Aroma is gentle: mainly matly with a hint of bitterness. Not as watery as I expected. Flavour is gently malty with some toastiness and sour fruit at the end. Not a bad drop.

Bottled. A golden beer with a huge off-white head. The aroma has notes of straw and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and straw, leading to a dry and hay-like finish. Mild.

UPDATED: JUL 10, 2005 After downing a ’Tiger’ I was after something a little more vibrant. This was next on the list and indeed turned out to be a light and easy quaffer. Tasted from the bottle and poured into it’s own stem glass. A short soapy white head formed, atop a slightly hazy pale gold body, and clung firmly to the glass as I downed it. Very loose yeast particles continued their dancing in suspension, good to see it’s not filtered. Bitter grassy aroma, initially, with a lot of sweet honey malt coming through as it warmed. Similarly sweet in the mouth, reminiscent of this morning’s breakfast. Lightly toasted malt, grains and honey. Light bodied and a little yeasty, it had mild carbonation and only a touch of leafy bitterness in the back. Finishes off with a short grainy and slightly soapy swallow. Not bad, undemanding but still a decent, light, summer beer.
