500ml swingtop bottle pours a hazy dark ruby/brown with a thin off-white head. Aroma is full of roasted malts and toffee. Taste is sweet and caramelly, with some dark fruits, coffee grounds, and old bread. Body is medium with slight carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel. There is some bitterness in the finish before the malty aftertaste comes back. OK, but not one I’ll search out again.

Shared a 50cl bottle. Pours a clear dark brown colour with a nice tan head. Aroma is roasted, malt and caramel. Average carbonation and medium body. Taste is slightly more sweet than bitter with some dry hops at finish. Overall, an average beer, drinkable but not remarkable.

@ Party Town / Florence KY --- Clear dark ruby brown with a head cover and stripes of lace. Taste is malt and a bit of toffee. An oleo margarine overtone enters at the end of the palate along with very light bittering. Not much to drink.

bartlebier (1540) - Belchum im Breisgau, GERMANY - MAY 13, 2014
50cl fliptop, local REWE, bb01/2015. Tired & damp nose, bio trash can and a whiff of roadside urinoir, that manmade cassonade. Hops and caramalts gently leaking starch on a leash, liquorice extract and some filter coffee, damp black soil in need of humus. Redeeming dryness, yet dumpfer Muff sufft ned gut. Always up for new Schwarzbier discoveries - alas Stgt Schwabenbräu is not the natural, nor the imported habitat to look for it.
