3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Swing-top by 24.10.12. Caramel nose is lightly sweet, has some dust and sticky fruit, leaning more to dates than berries, at least at first. Clear golden body with a creamy beige head. Sweet start in the mouth dries out only slightly before the end, picking up good clean malt with slight booze and yeasty undertones, there’s subtle citrus and a lot more honeycomb and fair balancing from the hops in the background. Medium-full body, all smooth rather than crisp. OK.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: DEC 3, 2011 There is xmassy goat (bock) on the label who sledges downhill while holding a mug...I wonder how sledging would look like after several of these.
Deep golden, with good clarity and effervescence, topped by mid-sized persistent creamy white head that gradually sets to stable cap that remains.Nice lacing on the sides.
Aroma is pils malt with light toasty-biscuity notes and melanoidin, and noble hops with mild spiciness. There is some faint DMS reminiscent of cooked vegetables but that’s acceptable considering the pils-malt foundations. Otherwise clean lager character, without any esters or diacetyl.
Excellent flavor of rich pils malt with some caramel, however, the malt is well attenuated and any sweetness quickly replaced by prominent peppery hop-flavor, leading the path to a dry finish with lingering bitter aftertaste from hops stopping short of being astringent.
Nearly medium bodied and moderately carbonated.
In short, a very decent Helles Bock, with prominent pils malt and spicy noble hop flavor. (500 ml bottle, Best Before 10-24-2012, into tulip)
