Aarleks (402), Sydney, Australia Mar 8, 2005 Updated: Apr 26, 2005 Tap: Cloudy copper with a white head that lasted. The initial aroma is very much like peach iced tea. As it warms it develpos slightly smokey and sweet toffee aromas (bit of plastic in the background). Smells sweet. Toffee with again the peachy influence in the flavour along with a smokey malt and earthy hop aftertaste. Develops into a less balanced sweet malt ale (much like the JS Amber of old). A little overcarbonated to my taste with a slightly harsh bitterness. In all, quite reasonable and with work will shine.7/3/6/3/11=3
Re-Rate:Tap at the Macquarie: Now much stickier and unbalanced. All the previous hop presence has dissapeared. I found this very un-appetising this time. 5/3/5/3/10=2.6
Lunkie (1020), Glen Iris, Australia Jun 3, 2008 Hop spice malt aroma. Clear amber colour with head and lacing. Fruity hop malt flavour. Smooth palate. MBison (445), Southern Highlands, Australia May 19, 2008 Updated: Jun 10, 2008Draught at the Schwartz Brewery (4.9-5.1%). Arrived golden orange with a small, frothy, white head which was mostly lasting. Fruity hop aroma with passionfruit, apricots, peaches, marmalade and some sweet caramel malts. Decent fruity hop bitterness with lots of stone fruit, some resin (mild), sweet caramel and biscuity malts hiding beneath. Medium bodied with medium carbonation, dry texture, watery mouthfeel and a good finish. Not quite sure why this was listed an amber ale as it is clearly an American pale ale. 30-40 IBU’s. bluevegie (1817), Perth, Australia Apr 21, 2008 Tried on tap at the Macquarie Hotel. Golden body, clean malt character with moerate bitterness and a pleasant hoppy nose. beerledgend (808), Meadowbank Auckland, New Zealand Oct 1, 2007 Big American hop nose. Light orange in colour with nice tight white head. Low carbonation, flat finish. Big build up with aroma, let down by flavour, very chalky. highlandlad (1203), Sydney, Australia Jul 2, 2006 At just $2 for a schooner at Happy Hour, this pale ale represents good value. But I can’t find many other reasons to recommend it. Overall, it seemed a bit "green" and muddled. Looked much like the pilsener - pale gold with a chill haze and a solid 0.5cm head. Aroma of lychee, lime ice poles and unripe greengages. No real malt presence. Carbonation seemed weak - felt a bit dead initially and became quite sticky and cloying near the foot of the glass. Flavour of lime ice poles - citric, tart and mouth-watering. Quite malty in the mid-palate, with faint caramel. Has some hop bite but became gummy. Hop extract? (Draught at brewpub)
