Black color with beige head. Aroma of caramel and malt. Taste is sweet with licorice notes. It’s not watery, but I would like have more taste in this beer.

on tap in Dresden: good example of the style, nice color and feel on the tongue, but then again nothing distinctive. Sometimes you just want a beer that fits the definition of the style at hand and this beer fits that deScription. I would try this again when the opportunity presents itself.

Bottle from a colleague. Thanks Ian. Black beer lasting tan head. Bready German yeast aroma. Some blackcurrant. Just having a well made fresh German lager makes me smile. It’s an ok schwarz. Not overly chocolatey on the malts. It’s a fruity dark lager. Not the best, but when you’ve had to go a few months without a fresh German lager then you begin to get homesick. It’s funny well make lagers are just so much more fun that ales. Some nuttiness. I liked it a lot. Fresh, simple, bready, nutty. Just simply well made and utterly drinkable. Chapeau.

One quickly notices that Steiger has a tradition of offering a true Schwarzbier. The beer is aromatic and well charactered. Not all too broad in its taste spectrum, but round and smooth with a good mixture of bitterness, drinkability and a touch of caramel and dark chocolate/coffee type flavours.

Dark Brown color with some foam. The smell is a little roasted coffee like. The taste has a crisp carbonation, a roasted coffee body and is otherwise rather watery. A little disappointing, but quite easy drinkable for a black beer.
