300ml on tap, nicely served in an original glass outside at Cafe Elbflorenz, Bad Schandau. Slowly diminishing beige head leaving spotty lacing behind. Deep dark in body colour with a rustic shade. Plain roasted dark malts on the nose, bready. Roasted flavours, moments of liquorice, dark bread, nuts, moderate candy sweetness, and hints of dark fruits. Roasted malty ending. Fine bodied. Good drinking, well-made version of the style (03.07.2016).

Poores dark brown, minimal head. Smell has some caramel and roasty malty taste. Stats sweet, than comes a bitter ending. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

500ml blik gekocht in Jingzhao. Clear blackish brown colour; Two finger head crumpety light beige foam which lasts for 2 minutes; Very good sticky lacing and fizzy carbonation; Quite fragrant aroma of dark malt, with quite strong roastyness, strong nuts, caramel, toffee, chocolate, strong cream, sugar, light dark fruits, bread, yeast, lemon and strong strawy grass; Close to light sweet taste of dark malt, with fair roastyness, black coffee, light caramel, ligt dark chocolate, Cola, light molasses, light lime, moderate bitter hops and strong grass; Light body. Watery palate; Mouth feel is good dark roasted maltyness in a very thin background. Despite that there’s some really good black coffee and chocolate flavours here, back by strong malt and sharp grassy hops, it feels richer than it is. Low sweet, nice light lime to round. Good!... Hoppiness is lemon and strong strawy grass in nose. Lime and strong grass in taste; Bitterness is moderate for an abrupt, fair astringent dark malty finish; Slightly dry after taste. Malty and fairly bitter to mouth.

on tap in Dresden: good example of the style, nice color and feel on the tongue, but then again nothing distinctive. Sometimes you just want a beer that fits the definition of the style at hand and this beer fits that deScription. I would try this again when the opportunity presents itself.

Comments: I thought this would br one of those average canned Schwarz, but was I wrong: some very good roasted dark maltyness in both rich creamy aroma and good black coffee taste. The sharp grassy hoppiness is quite refreshing for the style. This is a joy for an inexpensive black beer!

Bottle from a colleague. Thanks Ian. Black beer lasting tan head. Bready German yeast aroma. Some blackcurrant. Just having a well made fresh German lager makes me smile. It’s an ok schwarz. Not overly chocolatey on the malts. It’s a fruity dark lager. Not the best, but when you’ve had to go a few months without a fresh German lager then you begin to get homesick. It’s funny well make lagers are just so much more fun that ales. Some nuttiness. I liked it a lot. Fresh, simple, bready, nutty. Just simply well made and utterly drinkable. Chapeau.
