Aromas of sweet and sour fruit-- raisin, apple, plum-- and slightly toasty malt. Flavors of dark fruit, again sweet and sour, with a sweet, toasty malt throughout. Bitter enough to keep it from being candy-sweet, light but not thin on the palate. Went great with my sausages, tasty stuff.

Bright brown colour, thick and disappearing head. Aroma is quite light and typical to bock with malty notes, some berries and hints of glue. Flavour feels like a dunkel with malty notes, some roastiness, hints of solvent and glue. Actually quite close to a dunkler bock.

Ein Altbier, dass nicht aus der angestammten Altbierregion Düsseldorf/Niederrhein stammt und dennoch recht ordentlich daherkommt! Es interpretiert den Begriff alt eher süßlich-malzig als malzig-bitter wie die Kollegen aus Ddorf! Bedenkt man den recht niedrigen Alkohol-Gehalt kommt es auch reichlich vollmundig daher. Kein Alt für alle Tage -denn auf Dauer ist es mir zu süß- aber ein schönes Wochenende kann man sich als Altier-Gelegenheits-Trinker locker damit vertreiben! Ganz NRW war in der Altbier-Hand der Ddorfer. Ganz NRW? Nein, Schwelm trotzte dem erfolgreich!!

Die Schaumkrone hält mittelmäßig, die Farbe ist hell für ein Alt. Es riecht säuerlich, süß-röstmalzig. Geschmacklich ist es hopfig-bitter, leicht röstig. Der Nachgeschmack wird dann bitter hopfig, aber hält nicht lange an. Fazit: Naja trinkbar...

Sorry for the german rating, but this is a lousy rating from my "newbie" time (2007-2009), and it’s not worth of being translated. I just added it for the statistics, and to complete my backlog!
Im Glas schön leuchtend rot und dunkel, die malzbierartige Krone hält sich schön lange im Glas. Geruchlich ists etwas bitter, leicht malzig. Der Antrunk ists sehr gewöhnungsbedürftig. Leich malzig, fruchtig säuerlich, und ein unbeschreiblicher, komischer Beigeschmack Wirkt auf den ersten Schluck sehr ungewohnt und fremd, aber nach einigen Schlücken gewöhnt man sich dran und siehe da: Es schmeckt richtig gut! Zwar gibt’s Besseres, aber das Schwelmer Alt ist gut bekömmlich!

Kupferrote und dunkle Farbe. Fruchtig-malzige Blume. Der Geschmack tendiert klar in Richtung bitter-malzig mit deutlichen Fruchttönen aus der Posaune. Fantastic alt. Pours a clear auburn with a big beige frothy head that has great lacing. Aroma of malts, a little raisin and some hops. Taste is fabulous, roasted malts hits you right away, this is followed with a little raisin and a little hop. Great character and balance. Wish this was in Canada.
