3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 willblake (2587) - Bel Air, Maryland, USA - JAN 3, 2007
03.01.07 33cl bottle dated 88.10.76. I’ll have to ask beastiefan what that means. Little pomp on the popping of the swingtop. Extremely pale straw color with smallish white head. Aroma is pretty sweet with nice saltine and mild grassy and savory hops. Flavor is in line with a lagery pepper and quick finish. Very mild throughout but no standout flaws that I notice. Body is soft and a bit sweet with a light syrupiness (is that a word?). Could definitely be a bit more carbonated, but still nice. Very pleasant and quite affordable pils quaffer along the lines of Bitburger...and in a swingtop to boot? I may be revisiting this one soon.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 bhensonb (7143) - Woodland, California, USA - DEC 28, 2006
Balanced light aroma of hop and malt. Golden color with a decent white head. Soft, but substantial mouthfeel. The sweetness is lightly grapey, and the finish is definitely hop. Mellow, smooth, and very nice. The lasting bitterness saves it from being "just a lager".
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 JoeMcPhee (6835) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 23, 2006
33 cl bottle. Crystal clear golden colour. Aroma is quite flinty and minerally. Nice pale malt character, tettnanger hop aroma, grassy/herbal with a soft honeyed maltiness in back as well. Flavour is nice and clean. Herbal German hops but also a touch of decocted Czech malty fullness. Nice combination of the two classic pils styles. Lots of floral/grassy flavour on the finish. Nice brew.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 ABUSEDGOAT (1937) - California, USA - DEC 10, 2006
Clear golden, fairly large white head. Aroma is grassy hops with bready malts. Buttery mouthfeel, light but detectable bitterness. A solid Pils.
2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 heathcliff13 (1) - auburndale, Florida, USA - NOV 27, 2006 does not count
Not a bad beer, but nothing special - especially for a German beer. But it’s a nice change of pace after holiday parties and the usual American watery beer served.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 bridge (659) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - OCT 29, 2006
Initial sweet dough aroma, followed by some grass and faint diacetyl. On tasting it’s more of the latter two. Some shallow bitterness caking at the back of the tongue. Fairly light bodied, with a nice carbonation level. Not too bad, however it seemed a bit of hard work ploughing throught the entire half litre.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 nick76 (3461) - Tampa, Florida, USA - OCT 20, 2006
The aroma is like sweet bread. There are plenty of malty grains but with nice herbal and grassy hops. The appearance is deep gold with a light orange hue. The head is medium sized and foamy. Also, the head leaves lots of lace on the glass. The flavor is like the aroma. It’s like drinking sweet herb bread. The palate is smooth but thin making it very refreshing. The finish has a bit of citrus that was not detectable in the aroma. As a German pilsner this one sets the bar. Probably the best pilsner I have had.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 dwedin (245) - Happy Valley, Oregon, USA - SEP 20, 2006
Golden clear body with small white head. Grass and light malt aromas. Clean smooth bitterness with green apples. Good pils.
