2.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Dredd (561) - Bentleigh, AUSTRALIA - AUG 8, 2008
Starts well, pour is pretty as a picture. Classic Pilsener of clear body and foamy white head. Aroma is damp hay, flavour is a mix of corn syrup, some sweet malts that finishes with a nice bitterness.
Good robust pilsener.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 tgncc (1796) - Bellmore, New York, USA - AUG 1, 2008
Smells of malts, grass. The aroma is ok, definitely not its strong suit. True to its style, it is a straw gold color with white head. Malty flavor, some earthy, grassy notes as well. Finish is a little sour, not at all hoppy. This is far from my favorite style, and I don’t make much distinction between a pilsener and a typical pale lager. But this is not bad.
2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 jbuzz (690) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 29, 2008
Single from Three Cellars Milwaukee. Nice but on the lighter side. Good head that lasts. Grassy tones and light malt.
3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Drake (4803) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - JUL 27, 2008
500 mL swingtop from Whole Foods Market Charlottesville. Either their best by date is 1987, or I can’t decipher what coding they use. Pours a clear peach color with clearly visible carbonation. 2-finger head with decent retention but not much lacing. Sweet, grainy aroma with a subtle grassy note. Very malty taste with a grassy and slightly hoppy finish.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 nearbeer (2572) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - JUL 25, 2008
UPDATED: FEB 27, 2009 330 ml. Schwing-top. Deep golden with a small, lasting head. Aromas of spicy grilled corn, honey, light dry grass and apple. Taste is dry cereal drizzled with honey, corn, hints of tart apple and spicy dry grass. Light-medium body is smoothly carbonated, dryish, and has some light tongue-tingle. Nice soapy lacing.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Trev (1424) - Lakeville, Minnesota, USA - JUL 17, 2008
pours a pale gold with a thin rapidly dissapearing head.
LIght grassy aroma, slightly skunky but not too prevalent.
Grassy hop flavour. Light malt, very clean. Light lemon tones
Would like to try a fresher sample.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Cletus (6025) - Connecticut, USA - JUN 30, 2008
Pours gold with a decent white head. Smells of dry pilsner malt, some straw, hints of citrus, elements of spiciness. Tastes dry with a nicely balanced bitterness and an excellent citrussy finish.
