haddon90 (1035), Alexandria, Virginia, USA May 16, 2009 Bottle. Deep black pour, with a decent tan head. Roasted malt aroma. Hint of vanilla. Rich malt taste. Light coffee taste as well. Not bad, but could be more. Pours a dark black with thin head. Aroma is a bit smoky. Flavour is rich malt with a bit of a buttery-sweet finish - bit of the smokiness remains throughout. Quite nice Trev (850), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA Dec 22, 2008 Pours dark brown/black with thin tan head.
Aroma is nice chocolate and espresso coffee.
Coffee flavour with light chocolate and nut hint of bitterness in the finish.
Not bad. kramer (2407), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 20, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown, almost black body with a small wispy beige head that settled to a thin ring. The nose is lightly roasty with some chocolate and nutty malts, but there is also an underlying buttery note that turns me off. The flavor is a little thin, with that buttery note that lingers around and is very distracting. Very light coffee and chocolate malt. There is also a weird acidic tone on the finish that is not too pleasant. Mouthfeel is thinnish with soft fizzy carbonation. Mouth coating sticky buttery finish. Overall, this just is not good to me, I hate diacetyl in my Porters. csbosox (1076), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Dec 15, 2008 341ml bottle. Roast, chocolate, dark fruits, and lots of blackstrap molasses and treacle in the aroma as well as a little bit of dulce de leche. Nearly black with red highlights. Astringent roasted malt balances out the residual sweetness while fruity flavors dance about. Interesting beer. mullet2007 (198), St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada Nov 21, 2008 Pours a deep brown to nearly black with garnet highlights when held up to light. It has a nice creamy about 1 finger tan head with some nice lacing. Nose is pretty much only roasted malts. Flavour is very much the same. Hardly any hops, and a lot of dark roasted malts. It’s reasonably sweet, and there’s almost a hint of hop bitterness int he finish for a second, it’s hard to say. It’s very smooth drinking, but not overly thick or chewy, but not exactly watered down either. PaulHegedus (459), Georgetown, Ontario, Canada Aug 29, 2008 Updated: Apr 8, 2009Bottle. This pours brown, almost black in the glass with a milky brown one inch head. There’s lots of cherry in the aroma, some espresso beans, smoke. The mouthfeel is fairly watery. I taste some nuttiness, chocolate, coffee, water.
