This seasonal porter is a brown so deep that it’s almost black. The taste of our "plain" evolves as it warms in the glass; shading from dry chocolate and coffee to chocolate and cobnut. The finish is dry and nutty with just the slightest hint of licorice. Black Irish is brewed from pale ale, crystal, brown and chocolate malts; with roast barley in the mash for the dry astringency characteristic of Irish porters and stouts. Delightful on its own, it makes a wonderful match with smoked salmon, mussels or oysters.

Stubby: Black with tan head. Aromatic with toasty hints of malt and chocolate. Taste has some espresso and fruits. A little watery. I expected more to be honest, but it does just fine as a porter.

341 mL Bottle, Apr. 4, 2010. Deep brown-black body with a small tan head. Aroma of toasted malts, notes of black coffee and molasses, subtle hints of prunes and raisins. Rich flavor of toasted malts, almost Guinness-like; black coffee, toasted malts and a hint of toffee in the aftertaste followed by a hoppy finish.

Bottle thanks Boutip. Dark pour with no head, this beer has nice aroma of burnt toast, some chocolate and coffee notes. Taste is quite bitter, lots of burnt toast and coffee and a little something fruity, cherry-like. Palate is quite watery which is kind of a downer because this beer was doing good so far.

11.5 oz bottle from LCBO. Pours black with thin rocky tan head. Head fades quickly, leaving slight lace. Aroma is chocolate and coffee, with a hint of licorice and herbal hops. Flavour begins slightly sweet, becomes a bit drier towards the finish. Finish is moderate in length. Light in body with a milky texture and minimal carbonation. A very drinkable porter, but could be more complex. 2010-02-27

Pours coal, looks a bit thick. No head, but looks somewhat carbonated. ------- Aromas of chocolate, nuts, overcooked toasts and some smoke. ------- Taste too thin, too watery. Light-to-medium body, but more light than anything else. ------- Flav is slightly metallic. Strong notes of oat, nuts and something that doesn’t feel right that was finally licorice. ------- started great, but ended in castrophic fashion. I’d avoid this one.
