Commercial Description:
This seasonal porter is a brown so deep that it's almost black. The taste of our "plain" evolves as it warms in the glass; shading from dry chocolate and coffee to chocolate and cobnut. The finish is dry and nutty with just the slightest hint of licorice. Black Irish is brewed from pale ale, crystal, brown and chocolate malts; with roast barley in the mash for the dry astringency characteristic of Irish porters and stouts. Delightful on its own, it makes a wonderful match with smoked salmon, mussels or oysters.

Not much on this one. Left a bad bitter taste in my mouth. Color and aroma was good but I just couldn’t do the aftertaste.

Near black in colour with fairly low carbonation. Aromas of burnt toffee, a bit of stewed fruit, and rubber. Flavors of caramel and chocolate upfront, before drying out quite quickly with notes of minerals and ash. Starts out quite slick on the palate, before the dryness takes over. The rubber note is a fairly major negative, but it’s pretty good otherwise. Thanks to gregclow for the bottle.

Bottle - Deep red/brown, tiny head. Amazing coffee molasses aroma, definite turf flavour, like drinking a peat fire. Big chocolate-smoke finish. Super stuff and only $2 for the bottle, I will be buying more .

Quick review of an 11oz stubby bottle from the CheeseMan! Pours dark and oily with a motor oil consistency, lower carbonation than most, but suitable on the palate, as it’s slick and oily with a decent amount of roast and smoke (burning tire rubber?), and an almost peaty note. A good porter. I can really see this one working well with oysters, much like cask stout and porter, with than smooth, low carbonation texture.

(Rating #1383)

341 ml bottle. Dark brown with a pocked tan head. Prunes, brown sugar and molasses. Soft carb, creamy with a tang. Mellow chocolate and lightly sweetened coffee. Dry, plum finish. Nice session brew.

Bottle. Black, with medium-roast coffee, burnt malt and cardboard aroma. Flavour consists of burnt malt, distant fruit and an off-putting cigarette finish. Palate lacks the density of an upper-quality porter. Could use more depth/richness and tasty chocolate accents.

Very drinkable: dark chocolate in nose and taste with red apple overtones and warming alcohol all over.
