Pours opaque black, with a thin tan head. The nose is molasses, roasted malt and chocolate. The taste is chocolaty, coffee, liquorice and a bitter fruit tang on the initial sips. Finishes nice and bitter with a toasted nuts flavour to compliment it.
Very nice beer, I will definitely be purchasing a few more of these to keep around! Crockett (904), Steelback County, Ontario, Canada

Flavours are carried over from the nose. Quite dry with a trace of smoke. Chocolate, coffee, some licorice, and a berry like tart. Some iron/blood. Plenty of character. Nice beer. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 25, 2007 Bottle courtesy of boutip. Pours dark brown with a thin white head. Smells of chocolate, raisins, and caramel. Tastes of chocolate, some underlying tartness and some fruit. This has a surprisingly full mouthfeel and a lot of rich malty undertones. Finishes lightly tarte and roasty. aerosol999 (113), Quebec, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 23, 2007 Appearance: opaque black with brown highlights. No head.
Aroma: Strong coffee and ovaltine. No hops. Low bruised fruit ester.
Flavour: Aggressively roasty, lingering black malt character and some licorice. Finishes bone dry, crisp and acidic with a Burton water character. Some cream soda in the middle but quickly knocked back by black malt again.
Mouthfeel: Thin bodied acidic and mineral.
Overall: Aggressive roast character with lingering black malt. Finishes thin, dry and crisp like a lager.Good roast character but I’d prefer more chocolate and less black malt. sstackho (249), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 17, 2007 12oz bottle purchased from LCBO in Toronto. Pours a deep black with a brown head that quickly dissipates. Very nice roasty aroma - some chocolate. First taste is actually a bit crisp - I guess from some carbonation. The aftertaste though is like the nose - all roasty and toasty. Similar sensations persist throughout the beer. I’m not overly fond of that initial crispness and it makes the beer feel a bit thin at first. The aftertaste is nicely worh it though.

Aroma contains malt vinegar and roasted malts, with shades of chocolate and coffee. Some yeast. The flavour contains bitter, almost metallic-inflected malts, with lots of burnt toast, some chocolate and coffee. However, the body is on the light side. Quite good, was pleasantly surprised considering the relatively cheap price.

Rerate, 4/6/2008. On tap at Castle on King. Pours nearly opaque black with a small, creamy, tan head. Aroma of chocolate, toast, dirt, rain, black licorice and coffee beans. Flacour of burnt toast and dark chocolate. A strong, raw tartness accompanies the beer. Dry earth aftertaste. Light bodied, but manages to be rich and complex. matt7215 (959), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada

This porter pours brown that looks almost black except for the red around the edges and has an average sized beige head. Aromas of chocolate and coffee with some nuttyness. The flavours evolves as it warms in the glass but it is mostly malt with the same flavours as the aromas that preceeded it.The finish is dry and has some nut. I dont know why this is called plain because it is a great porter. To thin to be rated higher but an awesome beer. I could drink this in session no problem. french tickler (642), Aylmer, Quebec, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 7, 2007 Poor is pitch black with a nice beige frothy head. Aromas are grainy, moca coffee, toast, chocolate malts, chestnuts and hints of black licorice. Medium body with a very balanced mouthfeel. Smokey flavors and sensation with a lightly creamy feel. Dark chocolate completes the flavors with a coffee like aftertaste. Bitterness hits you right off the bat and is long lasting with a dry finish. Very interesting and surprisingly good!
