robinvboyer (1419), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Oct 4, 2007 very nice aroma, slightly smokey, wicked molasses, and burnt brown sugar notes, with some slight burnt toast. Flavour is nice, but i find it lacks alot of the complexity of the aroma. Its slightly wattery, and a tad sour? It does have a very nice coffeeish aftertaste, and a nice bitterness. Overall a nice effort, and a good stout. wilderthanyou (409), Guelph, Ontario, Canada Oct 4, 2007 Pours a tar black with a beige head that disolves to a thin film. Aroma is a tad thin, might get stronger as the beer warms, most notable is the malty sweet scents and some strong coffee and black chocolate. Flavours of Coffee, with some tasty licorice flavours in the finish. A good mouthfeel is what this beer lacks however, It should really be thicker, feels to watery and prevents me from fully enjoying this beer. Still pretty good though, the finish is pretty decent. probstk (1005), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Oct 3, 2007 355 mL bottle from LCBO, served cold in a tulip glass.
App.: Very deep brown-black, good mocha foam.
Aroma: Tons of beautiful dark-roast coffee, some dark and milk chocolate, very slight tangy wood.
Palate: Medium body, soft carbonation, slightly powdery.
Flav.: Black coffee, tangy, woody, leaves some bitterness, dry, a bit of black coffee (didn’t I already say that??); falls short of the nose, unfortunately.
Need a bit more in mouth to be truly competent. Quake1028 (633), Tampa, Florida, USA Sep 30, 2007 Bottle courtesy of dsnowden. Dark, dark brown body with ruby highlights, very small tan head. Nose of espresso beans, coffee, cocoa powder and dark fruits. On the fore we have heavy roast, coffee notes and dark fruits. Low carbonation, medium bodied. Nicely rounded mouthfeel. Roasty finish, medium length. Very good, but I can’t help but think it suffered a bit in my mind following the Chocolate Thunder. tomthompson89 (1456), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 30, 2007 Bought at LCBO, lovely dark brown almost black, slight amount of beige head that dissapears rather quickly nose has choc and some yeastyness, flavor is similar with good malts and a bit of hops but really well done mgumby10 (1844), Jupiter, Florida, USA Sep 29, 2007 Courtesy dsnowden. Pours a very dark brown, bordering on black, with pretty much no head. Small bubbly light brown bubbles hug the edge of the glass. Smells of toasty caramel, maybe even a touch of smoke, dark malts, and mild chocolate. The flavor was somewhat thin bodied, some of that chocolate, and creamy vanilla maybe too. Really easy drinking, really smooth, no alcohol detection at all. Nice porter. Subdued, but tasty. TheCheeseMan (538), Saint Cloud, Florida, USA Sep 29, 2007 Pours a deep brown, borderline black color, virtually no head. Aroma is very nice. Hints of smoke, toasted sesame, sweet treacle and molasses, touch of cinnamon. I do detect some vanilla notes. Flavor is a bit muted, but finishes nice. There is a nuttiness and slight coffee nuance that shines through. Very solid. Beer Snob (378), Ontario, Canada Sep 27, 2007 The big surprise - and a nice one at that - is that it lacked the sweetness of almost every other porter I have ever sampled.
More like a light bodied stout, with a bit of nuttiness and a light maltiness.
Light aftertaste, a very pleasant porter indeed.
