Commercial Description:
This seasonal porter is a brown so deep that it's almost black. The taste of our "plain" evolves as it warms in the glass; shading from dry chocolate and coffee to chocolate and cobnut. The finish is dry and nutty with just the slightest hint of licorice. Black Irish is brewed from pale ale, crystal, brown and chocolate malts; with roast barley in the mash for the dry astringency characteristic of Irish porters and stouts. Delightful on its own, it makes a wonderful match with smoked salmon, mussels or oysters.

Pours dark brown with a bubbly tawny head. Aroma of roasted barley, molases and brown sugar. Flavours are carried over from the nose. Quite dry with a trace of smoke. Chocolate, coffee, some licorice, and a berry like tart. Some iron/blood. Plenty of character. Nice beer.

Pours dark brown/black with thin tan head. Aroma is nice chocolate and espresso coffee. Coffee flavour with light chocolate and nut hint of bitterness in the finish. Not bad.

Pours black with a brief tan head and a very nice graham-cracker aroma with notes of prunes and dates - wow! Tastes ash-like, light roastiness, slightly bland. Thin body with low carb. I’m a bit nonplussed with this "plain" porter after the build-up of the lovely aroma. Still, many thanks to Robinvboyer for the trade!

Not much on this one. Left a bad bitter taste in my mouth. Color and aroma was good but I just couldn’t do the aftertaste.

RERATE Bottled release, stubbies. This is an elegant, full tasting and highly quaffable beer with much less astringency than I remember on draught. Beautiful tones of toffee and cocoa, Perry has really fine-tuned a beer that is now perfectly delicious . + One point each category and overall - nice feeling palate! --------&# ORIG RATING: Very roasty bitterness, solid dark colour, almost like a bitter stout. Enjoyable. Tap at ?C’est What? Toronto, King & Front area. 3.5 out of 5

341 mL stubby. Deep, dark mahogany brown; almost black. Small brown head that fades to a film within minutes. Aroma is roast, bittersweet chocolate, burnt toast. Flavour is not as full (or as sweet) as expected from the aroma, but is solid nonetheless: cocoa, coffee grounds, walnuts, and some roasted malt bitterness. Body is actually a little thin. Nice winter session beer. Would love to try this on tap.

Beautiful dark brown with a small but frothy maple head. Chocolate, roasted malts in the nose, followed by a nutty, smoky (charcoal), dark-chocolate flavour with hint of soy sauce. Dry, a bit sour in its very long finish. Nice stuff!

Tasted at TFOB. Black colour, light brown head. Aroma of caramel and hints of chocolate and burnt coffee. Flavour was strong and sharp, dark chocolate bite.
