3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Lubiere (8239) - Ottawa, Ontario, - MAR 7, 2004UPDATED: JUN 30, 2006 Superb black beer with a milk chocolate aroma, creamy moka head. Tame chocolate in the mouth with nice hops to balance the whole. A bit thin for my taste but enjoyable...un gros merci a Perry! »(Dec. 2003) 8-4-7-3-14
Deep dark porter with a thick moka head. In aroma, light bitter chocolate wiht herbal notes. In mouth, a crisp bitter chocolate powder, with herbal notes, like wild weeds, a bit off, but overall good. Medium bodied. Pint at the Cottage, June 30th, 2006. 7-4-7-3-13
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 solidfunk (1788) - Ontario, CANADA - AUG 20, 2012
Not sure how long this has been retired for, but it tastes a bit past its prime. Or was this what it always tasted like? Guess ill never know. Pours black with a little coca cola head that diappearses immediately. Cole like in ocolour. Taste is a little sour, a little nutty bitterness. Nothing really going on here other than enjoying a slow death in retirement in the beer cellar at the rhino.

0.9 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20 Bendrixian (677) - Halifax, Nova Scotia, CANADA - AUG 23, 2011
341 ml stubbie. This is my third experience with this beer being heavily foamy out of the bottles. Roasted notes and some chocolate/sweet notes. has some yeast notes. wow, the beer is almost sour, definitely something wrong here and it is one of the few times i’ve had to just say it is just not a nice beer.

This is a very solid beer. Deep dark with great malt and sweet, probably chocolate undertones.
2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 chris__hartley (162) - Ontario, CANADA - MAR 7, 2011
That essense of plain carries through most definitely. The aroma is of bitter chocolate, and some sort of nutty quality. the appearance is loose dark brown liquid with an increidbly fast dissipating tan head. The palate is quite bubbly yet thin, with a medium body and a bitter finish. As for the taste it tastes of faint coffee with faint chocolate and I think an almost sour cherry. Not too impressive of a brew, all in all.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 manuchampions (1217) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 28, 2011
Bottle from LCBO. Pours a frothy brown head on an opaque black body and great lace. Aroma is smokey and chocolatey. Flavour of bitter dark chocolate, roasted malts and coffee. The dry, nutty finish is excellent. Mouthfeel is slightly watery, but OK. I like it but don’t love it.
1.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 2/20 oldgrowler (14) - USA - JAN 2, 2011
Too thin, no body, and after reading conflicting reviews, I wonder is this for real or just one of a fair few bad bottles out there? In Canada it’s sold as "Black Irish Plain Porter," and plain it was. Like "kwjd," says mine was sour and flat, like something’s off -- like rancid grapefruit. Only way to finish this one was to chug it. The aroma is the best part.
