muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA Jul 25, 2005 Sampled on cask at the Winking Judge in Hamilton, ON, with tiggmtl, Olivier MTL and Rastacouere. Unfiltered, yeast suspended in the syrupy amber body, really odd looking but for me appealing...peach juice and light citrus (orange, lemon) in nose...body syrupy, fairly bitter, bit of baked fruit, lasting wetness and bitterness...not horrible, I guess but really more interesting conceptually than good. Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 12, 2005 Smooth drinking grapefruity, malted to cover high bitterness, can taste the leaf residue. Bitter finish and reasonably bitter aftertaste. Hazy ornage and lots of lace. Juicy creamy apricot peach blend. A good effort. On tap at Volo Caffe. Very hot day, would like to try a bit cooler.
joeycapps (1466), Waterdown, Ontario, Canada May 9, 2005 Murky dark copper w/ rocky, beige foam. Big flowery, juicy hop (Cascade? :-) ) aroma w/ lovely notes of sweet, sticky caramel. Sticky, chewy feel. Fine, sweet, malty foundation w/ leafy (tobacco), fruity (citrus) hop overlay. Long, very bitter finish. tupalev (2605), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 5, 2005 Updated: Oct 31, 2005Gravity dispensed, Winking Judge Spring Fest 05. Tons of citrus hops in aroma. After some debate, I settled on Powder Citrus Nestea Iced-Tea mix. I’m serious. Cloudy appearance. Medium bodied with a bold hop taste, but I found it went a little overboard and was too one dimensional (way too much grapefruit taste for me). I like my hops, I enjoyed this, I just didn’t think it was amazing. Having said that, I truly appreciate the effort of Perry in bringing us these one-off’s and experiments and encourage him to keep them coming! GregClow (2493), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 16, 2005 Pint at C’est What’s Spring 2005 Festival of Small Breweries. Hazy coppery iced tea colour. Aroma has some tea notes as well, along with the green hops. Flavour has notes of apricot, buckwheat honey and, of course, fresh hops. Mouthfeel is nice and soft, and the alcohol is very well hidden, making this dangerously quaffable. I’d love to see this become a regular (or at least semi-regular) Scotch Irish offering. DougShoemaker (2855), Toronto, Canada Apr 16, 2005 Aroma is a very pronounced citrus hops, with a touch of malt too, hazy orange/amber, with a good sized custard head, leaves some pretty lace. . Huge hops flavour start, some fine malt next with a trace of chocolate at the finish. Full bodied, quite balanced in spite of the bold hoppiness. Excellent!
Thanks for experimenting Mr. Mason! mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 16, 2005 cask. colour is a hazy copperish colour with an orange tinge. frothy white head. piney, sticky hops... and loads of them. Explosive hop flavour, subtle biscuity malt in the background. very long lingering bitter finish. It’s great to have these one off’s from Scotch Irish every once and a while. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 16, 2005 Updated: Aug 9, 2005TFOB, Aug 2005 Cask Randalized through the Hop Bunny. Orange body witha massive fluffy white head. Leafy hops aroma with mild notes of resin and tobacco leaf. Flavour is quite intense at first but becomes more tolerable after your taste buds have acquiesced to the inevitability of the onslaught. Orange rind, green vegetables and vine, sweet agoraphobic malt is barely noticable. Resiny lingering hops are a palate killer. Intriguing, but I think my final assessment of the randalizer is that while fun the beers are more drinkable without it. Average palate. 7/4/6/3/14-15
<P>C’est What, April 2005 Cask. Hazy orangy amber with a creamy medium sized white head. Aroma is quite hoppy, leafy. Pleasant bitterness throughout, very ’green’ hop flavour. Touch of pine needles, not a ton of citrus. Comparable in bitterness to the Sgt. Majors, but less in your face intense at times. Probably the more quaffable of the two now that I think of it, rounder balance. Average palate. Very nice beer. The fact that I went back for three or four more samples at the end of the night probably speaks much more highly than anything above. 7/4/8/3/16
