Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Jul 28, 2005 Cloudy headless pour with hop residues. Highly perfumey nose, very aromatic cascade, fruity, bready, earthy and buttery. Floral, citrusy and hoppy palate, very limited maltiness, nothing but hops. Flat palate doesn’t quite cut it. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA Jul 25, 2005 Sampled on cask at the Winking Judge in Hamilton, ON, with tiggmtl, Olivier MTL and Rastacouere. Unfiltered, yeast suspended in the syrupy amber body, really odd looking but for me appealing...peach juice and light citrus (orange, lemon) in nose...body syrupy, fairly bitter, bit of baked fruit, lasting wetness and bitterness...not horrible, I guess but really more interesting conceptually than good. tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Aug 17, 2005 Thick, chewy caramel and toffee malt aroma with fairly simple grapefruit-citrus hop nose. Hazy tan-brown with low but lasting cover of creamy head that leaves some patchy lacing. Caramel malts, up front with an emerging assertive bitterness. Overall character is very juice-like - peaches, apricots and grapefruit. Creamy texture to the medium body with low carbonation. Sampled on cask with muzzlehatch, Olivier MTL and Rastacouere at the Winking Judge in Hamilton. Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 12, 2005 Smooth drinking grapefruity, malted to cover high bitterness, can taste the leaf residue. Bitter finish and reasonably bitter aftertaste. Hazy ornage and lots of lace. Juicy creamy apricot peach blend. A good effort. On tap at Volo Caffe. Very hot day, would like to try a bit cooler.
HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Dec 16, 2005 Draught (cask). At Volo. Poured a clear light amber with a decent thin creamy off-white head. Aroma of lightly woody malt, some light tart treefruit, peat, and tons of rich, dry, resiny evergreen hops. Taste is primarily the aforementioned hops - some light roast malt and fruit character, but it’s about the hops (although the malt re-emerges some as it warms. Mouthfeel is very astringent, thick and oily - this is a very nice, if one-dimensional hoppy session brew - sip it and enjoy. Once again, well done Perry! jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 16, 2005 Updated: Aug 9, 2005TFOB, Aug 2005 Cask Randalized through the Hop Bunny. Orange body witha massive fluffy white head. Leafy hops aroma with mild notes of resin and tobacco leaf. Flavour is quite intense at first but becomes more tolerable after your taste buds have acquiesced to the inevitability of the onslaught. Orange rind, green vegetables and vine, sweet agoraphobic malt is barely noticable. Resiny lingering hops are a palate killer. Intriguing, but I think my final assessment of the randalizer is that while fun the beers are more drinkable without it. Average palate. 7/4/6/3/14-15
<P>C’est What, April 2005 Cask. Hazy orangy amber with a creamy medium sized white head. Aroma is quite hoppy, leafy. Pleasant bitterness throughout, very ’green’ hop flavour. Touch of pine needles, not a ton of citrus. Comparable in bitterness to the Sgt. Majors, but less in your face intense at times. Probably the more quaffable of the two now that I think of it, rounder balance. Average palate. Very nice beer. The fact that I went back for three or four more samples at the end of the night probably speaks much more highly than anything above. 7/4/8/3/16 blankboy (3165), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 3, 2006 Cask at Bar Volo. Pours a clear bubbly orange-amber with an average size white head. Overly mild aroma of citrus hops with a little malt thrown in. The flavour isn’t the "hop-kick" I thought it would be but it still has it’s fair amount of citrus hops along with some caramel malt, fruit and honey to balance things out. Medium bodied and goes down smooth. Well done, I look forward to drinking it again. DougShoemaker (2855), Toronto, Canada Apr 16, 2005 Aroma is a very pronounced citrus hops, with a touch of malt too, hazy orange/amber, with a good sized custard head, leaves some pretty lace. . Huge hops flavour start, some fine malt next with a trace of chocolate at the finish. Full bodied, quite balanced in spite of the bold hoppiness. Excellent!
Thanks for experimenting Mr. Mason!
