DougShoemaker (2855), Toronto, Canada Apr 16, 2005 Aroma is a very pronounced citrus hops, with a touch of malt too, hazy orange/amber, with a good sized custard head, leaves some pretty lace. . Huge hops flavour start, some fine malt next with a trace of chocolate at the finish. Full bodied, quite balanced in spite of the bold hoppiness. Excellent!
Thanks for experimenting Mr. Mason! GregClow (2493), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 16, 2005 Pint at C’est What’s Spring 2005 Festival of Small Breweries. Hazy coppery iced tea colour. Aroma has some tea notes as well, along with the green hops. Flavour has notes of apricot, buckwheat honey and, of course, fresh hops. Mouthfeel is nice and soft, and the alcohol is very well hidden, making this dangerously quaffable. I’d love to see this become a regular (or at least semi-regular) Scotch Irish offering. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 16, 2005 Updated: Aug 9, 2005TFOB, Aug 2005 Cask Randalized through the Hop Bunny. Orange body witha massive fluffy white head. Leafy hops aroma with mild notes of resin and tobacco leaf. Flavour is quite intense at first but becomes more tolerable after your taste buds have acquiesced to the inevitability of the onslaught. Orange rind, green vegetables and vine, sweet agoraphobic malt is barely noticable. Resiny lingering hops are a palate killer. Intriguing, but I think my final assessment of the randalizer is that while fun the beers are more drinkable without it. Average palate. 7/4/6/3/14-15
<P>C’est What, April 2005 Cask. Hazy orangy amber with a creamy medium sized white head. Aroma is quite hoppy, leafy. Pleasant bitterness throughout, very ’green’ hop flavour. Touch of pine needles, not a ton of citrus. Comparable in bitterness to the Sgt. Majors, but less in your face intense at times. Probably the more quaffable of the two now that I think of it, rounder balance. Average palate. Very nice beer. The fact that I went back for three or four more samples at the end of the night probably speaks much more highly than anything above. 7/4/8/3/16 mrkimchee (1414), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 7, 2005 hazy gold, big well retailed white head, especially for a cask ale. super floral, grapefruit amd piney hop aroma with some caramel. fruity melony and cocotail flavour with citrus and flowers. finishes bitter and lingers for days mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 16, 2005 cask. colour is a hazy copperish colour with an orange tinge. frothy white head. piney, sticky hops... and loads of them. Explosive hop flavour, subtle biscuity malt in the background. very long lingering bitter finish. It’s great to have these one off’s from Scotch Irish every once and a while. joeycapps (1466), Waterdown, Ontario, Canada May 9, 2005 Murky dark copper w/ rocky, beige foam. Big flowery, juicy hop (Cascade? :-) ) aroma w/ lovely notes of sweet, sticky caramel. Sticky, chewy feel. Fine, sweet, malty foundation w/ leafy (tobacco), fruity (citrus) hop overlay. Long, very bitter finish. Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 12, 2005 Smooth drinking grapefruity, malted to cover high bitterness, can taste the leaf residue. Bitter finish and reasonably bitter aftertaste. Hazy ornage and lots of lace. Juicy creamy apricot peach blend. A good effort. On tap at Volo Caffe. Very hot day, would like to try a bit cooler.
dirkules (613), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 13, 2005 hazy hoppy bitter IPA that retains a lot of the virtues of the style while adding a lot of floral esters and citrusy bitterness. The haziness is a sight to behold. Very decent.
