Appearance :Dark brown, slightly opaque, rocky, soapy ring. Low carbonation.
Nose :Aroma typical to continental Smoked meal, ham, woody, add burning dry leafs.
Flavour/Palate:
Strong frontal smoky character. Soft bodied. Smoky calmness, tobacco, black tea, hints of milk chocolate at end. Easy going “strong character “.
DougShoemaker (2619), Toronto, Canada Aug 30, 2007 Cask GTA’s @BeerBistro. Smokey aroma, burnt wood and roast coffee, black, pours a trace of cappuccino head. Flavour is billowing with the ultimate in smokey, woody bourbon, dark chocolate, roasted malts, brazil nuts too. Medium bodied, complex for such a light weight, hefty bitterness. Terrific Perry! Like HogTownHarry, I voted this "beer of the fest." mds (2111), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 26, 2007 Cask. Very dark brown with some light around the edges and a small bubbly brown head. Wow, what a powerful aroma - smells like a bag of cured ham along with toasted toffee and rye. Very creamy palate with some chocolate bitterness. Finishes with a lot of green smokiness. Interesting, to say the least. HogTownHarry (3361), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Aug 26, 2007 Cask. At BeerBistro, 2007 Golden Tap Awards. My choice for "beer of the fest." fNearly opaque (but essentially non-cloudy) deep brown pour, small frothy cask head to it. Strong smoked aroma, bacon, hardwood campfire, heavy roast coffee bean malt, decent dry hop bittering. Taste - woah, hardwood campfire ashes, smoked meat, dark roast malt - quite strong, with a long smoky linger to it. I found the body fairly substantial, almost a bit syrupy, and just the right amount of acidity and astringency in the smoke, almost a sourness to the finish. Excellent! blankboy (2687), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 24, 2007 Cask at 2007 Golden Tap Awards, beerbistro. Pours a very dark murky reddish-brown with no head. Nice peaty smoke aroma along with some dark malt, coffee and a hint of hops. Flaovur is big-time smoky bacon along with roasted caramel malt and a light bitter finish. Average bodied. I must say, this didn’t taste like I expected it to but I still quite liked it.
