Extremely chocolatey nose, dry with a tad sweet-smelling caramel behind. Dry, ashy flavours, lightly smoked, with a good bar of dark chocolate behind it, the kind flavoured with coffee and chunks. I think you’d get the kind if you could condense this. Though rather low on alcohol, it is still warming. The saturation enlightens it, but I’ve seldom had a beer that cried "sustaining" as much as this one. Very good stout. You Canadians can keep calling this "Imperial" only as long as you keep Lizzie as head of state, however. Foreign would suit it better - or Royal? hopdog (5552), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA

Poured a dark black color with a smaller sized tan head. Aromas of coffee, charred wood, caramel, smoke, and roasted coffee. Tastes of chocolate, roast, some dark fruits, coffee, and some vanilla. Kinda of like an Imperial Stout lite but very tasty and very drinkable. FatPhil (3468), Espoo, Finland

Dark brown to black. Coffee aroma. Great burnt taste - but not at all astringent. Coffee and chocolate finish. yespr (12020), Copenhagen O, Denmark

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 8, 2008 Courtesy of ughsmash much appreciated with this awesome looking bottle. Poured into a snifter with oily black color and medium frothy tan head. Nose of heavy cocoa, coffee, cream, roasted malts. Mouthfeel of lots micro bubbles with light to medium body. Initial taste is heavily roasted malts, dark chocolate bitterness and coffee. Mid palate caramel sweetness and moving into a burnt coffee. Finishing moderately hopped, roasted malts and mild chocolate. Some resin is noticeable. A slight bit too roasty for me but as my palate endured about half a glass it started to become very enjoyable. Palate duration is above average. Good head retention and minor spot lacing lacing of the glass. An easy drinking imperial stout. Thanks Jason! harrisoni (6771), Ashford, Kent, England

Choc aroma on an impy stout. Nice hops. Very choccy and smooth in mouth. Long bitter choc finish. Good. thewolf (5727), Kolding, Denmark

Wonderful bottle btw... Pours a very deep brown, bordering on black. On top is a good, creamy light-brown head - much like coffee cream. Wonderful complex aroma, that belies the relatively subdued ABV. Coffee, deep dark chocolate, caramel and light viniousness. Mouthfeel is generally rather nice, slightly creamy but still light. Flavour is impressively balanced, lots of coffee, sweet sugars, a nice subdued hoppy profile and a good dose of chocolate and roasted malts in the aftertaste. A really impressive Imperial Stout when the ABV is taken into account. Wonderful!
