Glouglouburp (2778), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Feb 29, 2008 In short: Superior soft stout. Can be roasted/coffee or somewhat fruity depending on batch you get.
How: Bottle 341ml. First Batch (red cap) and second batch (black cap) side by side. Acquired from tupalev, thanks a lot Jeff
The look: Black body. Medium tan head (red cap). Small tan head (black cap)
In long: Body is relatively thin with soft roasted malts. Red cap has more roastiness giving the impression of burnt toasts, roasted coffee beans and a hint of chocolate. Black cap is probably as roasted but fruity flavours of prune juice and blackberries softens-up the roastiness and tones down the roasted coffee beans and chocolate flavours. Both have a very lively tickling carbonation and limited hops presence. As it stands right now I slightly I slightly prefer the red cap over the black cap. But really I’d like a mix of the roastiness/coffee beans of the red cap and the fruity notes of black cap. Maybe the next batch will be cross between the two. Plus that would make a lovely purple cap.
csbosox (1076), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Feb 27, 2008 341ml bottle. Thanks Harry! Aroma is strong roast, some cocoa, and light cream with a nice malt backing. Color is black, as far as I can tell, with a mocha colored head. The intial taste is strong roast that falls just short of being burnt and a nice malty base followed by rich coffee, lots and lots more roast, a touch of dark fruits and dark chocolate, and some earthy hops. The finish is lingering light roast, which is nice because I initially though the roast would linger too much into the finish. Thick mouthfeel, even with the roast. Seems to improve as it warms, the roast is less pronounced and the beer shows a nice tangy flavor. robinvboyer (1419), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Feb 26, 2008 got a case from the LCBO.
WIcked roasty/coffee/chocolate aroma. Flavour is smooth, and loaded with chocolate, and coffee, with a touch of sweetness, and a nice chocolate bitterness. a wonderful easy drinking stout. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Feb 24, 2008 Name: John By Imperial Stout

sstackho (249), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 21, 2008 12oz bottle purchased from Front St. LCBO in Toronto. Pours black with a thick brown head. Strong aroma - mainly of chocolate. First taste is thick and strong. Tastes of coffee, chocolate, malts rounded out with some fruitiness. Finished with some nice hop bitterness. Great lacing - although the head is so heavy that I’m not sure how long it will stick to the glass. Great stuff. swoopjones (1862), Buffalo, New York, USA Feb 21, 2008 Bottle courtesy of Tupalev & Blankboy. Great stout. Pours a beautiful black. Coffee, raoasted malts, cocoa. Very good. had towards the end of rather long night but really enjoyed puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Feb 19, 2008 Bottle provided by HogTownHarry. Comes in a great stubby bottle with a beautiful label, and pours similarly well. The first aroma was rich coffee all the way, but as it warmed it became a bit lactic. Flavor is really quite similar, malts are a bit chewier, but the milky bit is really quite overwhelming. A pretty nice stout all in all, but I’m let down by the milkiness. ChainGangGuy (2522), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Feb 18, 2008 Appearance: Pours a body I’m told I might as well say is black with a full, tan-colored head.
Smell: Aroma largely made up of roasted grains, but there are some notes of chocolate and coffee.
Taste: Roasted malts with flavors of unsweetened chocolate, coffee, and a pinch of spicy aniseed and a dash of post-smoke pipe tobacco. Hint of scorched grains. Roasty, earthy bitterness. Finishes with a taste of dark chocolate and a sip of water.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: Hmm, not half bad! It’s nice to see something come out of a squaty bottle that’s not a weak, watery Caribbean lager.
