Commercial Description:
Sgt. Major's I.P.A is a robust, "west-coast" style I.P.A. with a tasty white-grapefruit/spice/resin flavour and aroma, making the ale wonderfully refreshing. Its bitterness (68 I.B.U.) is obtained throught the use of copious amounts of Chinook hops. The malts are pale, crystal 60,and chocolate. Available on draught year 'round and soon in 6 packs (bottles) at the LCBO.

On tap at Volo. Pours a clear copper with small white cap. Nose is relatively subdued with light floral hops. Taste is fairly big on the earthy hops, with some caramel malt. Nice bitter finish. Solid.

5/31/09...Murkey brown to copper with a quick show of a head...nice malt filled aroma...hops are here and there...a little earthy and a little thin in the body as well as a little unbalanced....dark fruits mixed with hops in different doses...not terrible, not amazing.....received in a trade with matt7215

Stubby thanks to matt7125. Pours an orange/yellow colour with an one finger sized head that laces nicely. Aroma is slightly vegital and sour. Very earthy-muddy hops. Tastes like soap and earthy root vegetables. Weird, slightly off putting... But still drinkable. May have left this one too long in the fridge. Thanks Matt!

Taste is very hoppy and a bit spicy. It’s definitely a good hop kick but I’d like a little more malt or otherwise. A good brew but not as exceptional as I had anticipated.

341ml bottle thanks to cfrancis. Pours clear pale amber with a huge white fluffy head. Nose is hoppy (pine) and caramel. Head retention is long, Extensive lacing. I have to wait for it to go down a bit before drinking. Taste is hoppy, salty and really spicy. Some alcohol feeling also. some hints of fruits. Finish is very dry and hoppy bitter. Nice IPA, nothing to write home about. Carbonation is very lively.

Bottle. A gift from hobbersr, in part as thanks for driving 3 and a half hours each way to Whitefish, MT to check out a beer store that MIGHT have some bottles of Cantillon... because I totally wasn’t gona go anyway.... Pours a lovely deep polished copper with a think off-white and very sticky head. Nice greean cast to the beer, exactly as I like in an IPA. Slightly hazy and with great lacing. Nose is nice and spicy, with plenty of citrus and hops, plus a nice crystal-malt toffeeishness right in the middle. Palate is crisp and refreshing, with nice malt and hop character, great balance, very well hiddden alcohol. Bitternessis present, but well balanced against both the sppice and the malt. I doubt I’d have gotten this bottle if hobbersr had tasted his bottle first!
