rudolf (1734), Buffalo, New York, USA Oct 18, 2004 @ The Winking Judge. Mmm. hops. Citrus & sweet nose w. a hint of tartness. Hops could be balanced out, they’re somewhat abrasive. Slightly Sour citrus followed with piney goodness. Mmm. beerhugger (541), Oshawa, Ontario, Canada Oct 9, 2004 Yum. Had this with a couple of sub-par offerings at a tasting recently and it stood well out from the crowd. Nice amber gold with good froth. Assertively hoppy and citrus aromas meld with some rich maltiness too. Flavours move between sweet malts and grapefruit bitterness. Very nice. Finished with decent length medium bitterness. JoeMcPhee (4911), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Oct 8, 2004 Updated: Oct 11, 2005Golden colour with a cloudy white head. Resiny dry hopped aroma, light spice. Full bodied brew, flavour shows decent malt/hops balance with a long bitter finish. Flavour of grapefruit and thick hop resins. Actually tastes remarkably like my very first homebrewed IPA.
From a 341 ml bottle. Crystal clear pale amber colour with a sticky white lace. Nice orange citrus aroma, a touch of tropical fruits and some hop resiny aroma. Flavour also shows a touch of tropical fruit, Lingering bitterness. The flavour seems a bit dusty though, without a lot of the life that I remember from the tap version. DarkStar22769 (100), Ontario, Canada Sep 5, 2004 Hand-pulled draft at the Winking Judge; this was my last ale to sample for the night...I just needed 4 more to make sure my ratings were correct. The ale was a magnificent clear rust/amber colour with a peaked head. The aroma that emanated from the drink was heavenly...it had a burnt and hoppy aroma. I couldn’t stop smelling it, until I wanted to drink it. Palate was full and heavy and I was thrilled with the caramel and the hoppiness that flooded the mouth. This, to me, is a good start for Ontario catching up to New England in terms of brewing class. THis could very well be my new session beer. manuchampions (95), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Aug 31, 2004 At it’s best it has a wonderful grapefruit nose, good copper colour, excellent crisp start with lingering hop finish. Seems to lose flavor very quickly on tap though...within days I’ve tasted the same keg and had it diminish noticibly. However, remains one of my favorite Canadian IPA’s. obisbeer (558), Barcelona, Spain Aug 30, 2004 Nice rich amber/ brown. Peach, pine, pear very fragrant! Light citrus, w/some pine, soft lingering green flavors. I wouldn’t mind a bit more malt, though very nice! pootzboy (1037), Hawgville, Ontario, Canada Aug 16, 2004 Updated: Aug 17, 2004On tap at the judge. Tapped a pale slightly cloudy orange amber with a respectable tight cap. Floral/fruity hops and sweet malt in the nose...nice medium bodied IPA with silky malt and hop balance with slight bubblegum and grapefruit flavors...finish is medium with a slight metallic twang from the hopping......very nice on tap....very drinkable IPFreely (1470), Lewiston, New York, USA Aug 13, 2004 Hazy orange/amber color, rocky white head. Full aroma, plenty of hops, good malt prescence. Earthy flavor, English tasting malts with some good hoppy bitterness, nice balance. Creamy mouthfeel, some lingering bitterness. Very good.
