Only by spreading it ultra-thin do you see a hint of mahogany red. Almost no head to speak of, but there is a thin caramel-brown crest on top. A bit of soy , leather and plum in the nose, lots of coffee, roasted/smoky flavours and molasses in the mouth. Great body, perhaps undercarbonated. A fine offering and impressive for an Ontario impy, but I should like to try it on tap. OKBeer (1159), Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

Pitch black colour with a mostly lasting frothy and creamy brown head. Luscious dark chocolate lead in to roasty coffee, leather, plummy, raisin, and licorice aroma with smoky and dusty notes and hints of acidity. Dark chocolate, dark roasted coffee, licorice, and leathery, tobacco flavours with a sweetish, fruity, roasty, and acidic bitter finish. Medium to full bodied, soft and creamy mouthfeel. A bit light bodied, but good stuff. egajdzis (3621), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA

Very bitter in a away that you might expect 3 day old espresso to taste but with a big burnt molassas and chocolate carrier. All of that in a good way. Thick. hopscotch (5474), Vero Beach, Florida, USA

Good retention. Chocolatey, funky nose. Te flavor is chocolatey up front. Bitter, but tangy on the backside. Unexpected buttermilk. Medium to full-bodied and creamy with lively carbonation. Finishes chocolatey, but tangy and dry. A pretty good, but odd, Impy Stout... or an "off bottle." Thanks go out to zathrus13 for the brew! harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 16, 2006 A deep dark brown with rubyish highlights and a small but ample bubbly tan head. Nutty chocolate aroma, roasted almonds and bittersweet marshmallows and cocoa. Floral chocolate covered cherries and other assorted dark fruits. Hazelnuts follow a strong coppery flavor that is almost blood like, reminiscent of rusty nails and tobacco smoke and licorice. Strangely different in the flavor, but still quite tasty. jmcnally (21), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
