First had this one at beerbistro in T.O. and loved it. Pours thick and black with brown head. Has amazing roasted malts with notes of coffee and licorice, and dried plums. Nice lingering flavour in the finish, a great sipping beer. Well done Perry!

2005 vintage, 341 mL bottle from CapFlu. Pours opaque with a huge frothy dark brown head, somewhat lasting, excellent lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (burnt, toast, chocolate, coffee), light hops (herbs), average yeast (dough, leather) with notes of tar, smoke and prune. Full bodied, alcoholic texture, lively carbonation and a bitter finish. Light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness; dark heavy roasted coffee and dark chocolate malt flavor.

Very nice and excellent beer. I thought I had rated this last year. It was my last beer in Scotland before leaving.

341ml bottle (2005) in trade from radiomgb - thanks, Jeff! A nice full aroma and an inky body. This one has a rich molasses flavor, a bit heavy with dark fruits and so forth. I tend to prefer my imperial stouts more on the roasty side, and so this wasn’t quite what I was up for. But it’s still a solid version of the style.

341 mL bottle, 2005 edition via Lubiere, shared with Ben, served below cellar temp in a snifter. FE 24/07.

App.: Thick and black, mocha head, totally opaque. Aroma: Loads of French-roast coffee, cacao, molasses, dark and milk chocolates, dark dried fruits, some grapefruity hops and a bit nutty. Wow. Palate: Full body, syrup and smooth, soft carbonation. Flav.: Lots of dark cacao, a little coffee, molasses, a touch of sweetness. Lingers long with a little residual bitterness.

All hail Tsarina Katarina!

2005. dense mocha head forms on top of a very dark brown body. Less oily looking than run of the mill imperial stouts. Lovely dry and sharp roastiness leads the charge in the aroma, followed by cocoa, burned marshmallows, and substantial hops. Coffee bitterness and a Snickers scent are present as well. Flavor expands on the aforementioned, a little too typical and lactic in the end, proving to be a somewhat boring flavor. The dryness in the mouth is pleasing. Finishes slightly stinging with ample, even impressive at this tage, hop bittering. Taste is definitely the least interesting component of this beer.
