very strong scent of alcohol that burns the eyes when you even try to sip! Thick dark blackend lacing head and tottaly thick black body. Malty and sweet with a strong taste of alcohol, maybe a little too strong.

Bottle. Pretty tasty stuff. Lots of roasty mocha and chocllate flavours, some licorice and dark fruit notes. Finish is roasty and bitter, slightly burnt and ashy. Good imperial stout.

2005 vintage 12 oz bottle courtesy of HogtownHarry. Pours a jet black color with a thick creamy yet foamy brownish beige head. Aroma is of roasted coffee beans, black licorice with a hint of dough bread. Roasted bitter coffee taste with a medium malty backbone and black licorice bites to it. Another upper echelon imperial stout.

2005 vintage at the toronto beer fest, volo, and the beer bistro. all 3 times, i’ve been very very please with this beer. Amazing aroma of coffee, chocolate, and smoke. JET BLACK appearance, flavour is great, lots of smokiness with a great coffeeish aftertaste, and some nice bitterness. wonderfull!

341 ml bottle, 2005 vintage - pours an oily, limitless BLACK, with a nice sized mocha head. Aroma hoppy, slightly sour, and roastily malty. Chocolate, coffee, some smoke, too. Full, thick body that is all of the above but moreso - more hops, more malt, chocolate, sour cherries.....delicious. Perfect carbonation. Dark chocolate and plum in the mid-palate, which fades to some coffee and raisin flavours. Mild bitter finish. The whole is absolutely stellar. Perry is a national treasure.

341ml bottle, 2005 vintage - pours inky/oily black with a good tan/coffee head on top. Fairly thick and syrupy, and totally opaque (at least it seemed to me under the minimal light in the bar). Aroma is very roasty/hoppy, with an almost sour, vinous character. Though a bit surprising and strange in the aroma, the sourness marries perfectly with the intense roastiness in the flavour, and combining with the hops creates a bitter chocolate quality that packs a big punch. Alcohol is hidden perfectly, and marries beautifully with the combination of flavours here. Some coffee and anise take a back seat to the intense chocolate roastiness. Fruity as well, with a good mild bitterness in the finish. Not as thick in body as some U.S. Imperials, but lighter, like the British variation on the style. The big, intense flavour reminded me more of American brews however. Fantastic stuff!

341 ml bottle at Volo. It poured jet black with a lovely thick tan head. Strong aroma of roasty goodness alternating back and forth between coffee and chocolate. There are lovely spicey notes with subtle hints of fruit and nut to round it out nicely. From the dirst sip right down to the last it was a most enjoyable beer. Great body and mouthfeel. Just enough carbonation to give it some life but not so much that you are belching like a frat boy. I will definitely be trying to secure some of this for my collection. It will do wonders to warm me up during the winter months.

341mL bottle from HogTownHarry, 2005. Pours a thick black with a fading 1/2 finger dark tan head. Immediate aromas of soy and charred wood arise, followed by big bitter roasted malts and coffee. There is also a bit of anise and burnt plastic. The first things that come to mind during the taste is quite a bit of tangy salty acidity and a bitter chalky roasted finish. More soy and oaky cherries? I think this is going to give me heartburn. Creamy mouthfeel, medium to full bodied, soft carbonation. Not too bad, but may all ready be past it’s prime.
