Bottle sample. Poured hazy dark copper color with a large rocky off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate to heavy wood caramel tawny port aroma. Medium body with sticky texture and soft carbonation. Full medium sweet flavor with a sweet woody finish of moderate to long duration. Very enjoyable brew

75cl bottle at home. Clearish dark brown with a small tan head. Medium to full body with low to moderate carbonation. Pretty sweet with some bitter tones. Brown sugar, caramel, roasted malts, oak, ripe fruits and spices. A tasty barrel aged brew.

Pleasant caramel and oak aroma. Nice dark brandy color and a full coating palate. Very smooth. Strong flavor of scotch ale with caramelized sugar, toffee, mustiness, oak and fruit from the Bordeaux.

Backlog rating. 75cl bottle at Caspar tasting, London. Thanks to Peter for this one! It pours a rich copper / brown color with a small tan head. Aroma is sweet and boozy, with notes of ripe plums, figs marmalade, toffee, vanilla. Taste is again sweet and finishes quite boozy, with notes of tart tatin, vanilla, ripe apricots, figs and plums, marsh mallow. Medium to full bodied with ok carbonation. Overall, sweet and tasty

Bottle... Pours cloudy and brown with no head. The aroma is big-time restrained, but there are faint notes of singed caramel, sweet wine, a sliver of raw beef and fresh sweat. Full-bodied with modest carbonation. The flavor offers some sweet caramel and is mildly vinous. This is a strange way to treat a Scotch ale. I would prefer the base beer be left alone.

"I balked at the price, not having been a fan of the base beer the one time I had it...but I know my rating was possibly for a bad bottle. Anyway, in the mood for a deep, malty brew - this hit the spot. The barreling is light, not overpowering, but adding to, the complexity of the beer. Chocolate, vanilla, fruit both from the beer and the barrels, oak, slight peat. Intriguing aroma and flavor. Smooth as hell. Iím surprised at this - may have to give the base another shot.

This is really delicious. Beautiful aromas of caramel, bread and dried fruit. Vanilla too. Not a lot of barrel presence here but thatís OK. Still a great beer. Lots of raisin bread flavors, caramel and other malty sweetness. Excellent

Bottle shared in London - big thanks to the Peter. The nose is big on ripe fruits, dates and figs. Big sweet flavor with some stewed apples, mellow alcohol, more figs, heavy fruitcake. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Sugary malt finish with more fruitcake, heavy read, dried fruis, dates and figs, mild caramel. Sweet but decent.
