This ruby-colored ale poured in a thistle glass with a modest tan head. The aroma is quite malty, the flavor is hoppy, earthy and very satisfying. The fact that this scotch ale was brewed in Belgium illustrates once again that Belgian brewers know no limits.

Bottle picked up in Belgium. Drunk after Gordon Scotch, this was similar but with some Belgian character, dried fruits and coarse bitterness. Not so good really.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: SEP 4, 2011 One of my wife’s favorites though we have not seen it around in quite a while. +++Sampled from an 11.2 oz brown bottle the beer poured an opaque mahogany color with a large tan head. The aroma was sweet with strong elements of caramel and molasses and just a hint of ripe fruit. The flavor was malty and sweet with noted molasses and caramel elements. A bit of toasted roasty malt flavor on the finish. A nice Scotch Ale.

A Belgian Wee Heavy...How neat for a belgian brewer to take a chance on a style that is rare in Belgium.
The aroma is primarily malty providing scents of sweet malts, caramel and molasses. The hops are flowery and there is a distant yeast character in the nose.
Very fruity with chocolate, brown sugar, maple, red licorice, spices, molasses and gingerbread cookies. Mostly malt notes which is normal for the style but this Belgian twist with the unique yeast strain is what makes this so enjoyable. Earthy palate.
A very complex, very well made, remarkable beer.

UPDATED: OCT 15, 2004 Chestnut brown, large off-white head, very foamy. Big malty and yeasty aroma although straightforward. Concentrated toffee, light earth flavors, mild alcohol. Extremely sweet on the tongue. Plenti of candi sugar, chocolate flavors, smoky plums, something vegetable reminiscent provides a leafy bitterness that doesn’t manage to balance the beer. Very lively carbonation, medium body. A bit overcarbonated to my liking and hard to take in big quantities I feel.

(11 Apr 04) Big, sweet, malty and alcoholic aroma, like fine scotch whisky. It iis dark brown and hazy with a fizzy off-white head that laces well. It begins moderately sweet and syrupy with a little bitterness and metallic flavour developing in the long finish.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This beer has pleasant malty smell that becomes more distinctively caramel. . Earthy ? and you can really smell the alcohol. The color is a dark hazy brown. It poured nice head that died quickly; but the lace held up all the way to the end. It has a very sweet taste on the front end; with a tart finish and a little bite. Somewhat smooth and creamy mouth feel. It has an interesting flavor, but lacked a well-rounded character.
