Hoptagon (62), Arlington, Virginia, USA Jul 30, 2008 Bottle. Pours ruby brown with a large and foamy off white cap. Nose is largely of malt, and toffee with a tiny hint of sharp noble hops. Flavor is heavy on the malt, with crystal and caramel malts predominating. Mouthfeel is slightly more carbonated than a traditional scotch ale, but gives the beer an extra zing. Can’t quite put my finger on it, but the beer finishes with a distinct yeasty Belgian quality. Hops are also more noticeable in the finish as is a touch of warmth from the alcohol. An interesting twist on one of my favorite styles. Well done.
hughie (2414), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England Nov 30, 2008 Hazy, dark reddish brown with a large off white head. Aroma began leathery and buttery, developing a caramel sweetness like butterscotch. Taste is very sweet, like buttery fudge, but with an engaging dryness that saves it from becoming cloying. bobaidan (313), Farmington, Connecticut, USA Oct 25, 2008 Pours murky brown with a medium head. Aroma is mostly sweet malt with a touch of bread-like yeast. Mouth feel is thick with less carbonation than expected. Flavor is very sweet with malt dominating over all. There is some hop bitterness, but not nearly enough to offset the sweetness. Alcohol is very well hidden. TheJollyOne (46), Kofu, Japan Oct 13, 2008 Poured a tan frothy head which was slow to diminish. Body was a deep amber with no particles. Butterscotch and caramel on the nose, some fruit. The taste was butterscotch and caramel, slightly bitter, but had a bit to much sugary sweetness for me. The palate was bubbily and a bit oily, with no aftertaste. wyzzywyz22 (453), Wirral, Merseyside, England Oct 1, 2008 Bottle, Ale Cellar, Darlington. Poured a deep brown colour with a decent sized tan head. Aroma was sweet and loaded with fruit. Stickyish, syrupy mouthfeel. Flavour was belting and got better with each swig; sweet malt, caramel, wood, plum, cherry. Subtle booze kick into a softish finish. Yum...Good stuff pal ! Calichio (484), Campinas, Brazil Sep 9, 2008 Excelente cerveja! A carbonatação é média/baixa, agradável. Corpo denso, mas suave. A consistência é cremosa. Baita conjunto! Não deixe de provar...
