leitrim65 (396), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 14, 2007 Pours a revolting murky, mud like brown with lots of floating sediment. Mild aroma consisting of sweet malts and raisins. Light bodied, with raisins, sweet malt, toffee, and a touch of hops and alcohol. A quality winter brew, if you can get past the appearance of this one.
cbeers21 (456), Miami, Florida, USA Nov 28, 2008 Deep mahogany pour with thinned head. Toasty raisin malts and sugared fruits are evident to smell, and there is a faint hop quality there too. A chewier brew which highlights caramel, buttery flavors combined with a sweetened vanilla touch and very quiet hop pinyness. Decent overall, but remains a good sturdy and warming offering. kp (6300), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Aug 13, 2008 Name: 10 Degree Below
kitschy (129), Nebraska, USA Jul 26, 2008 dark beer with chocolate aroma. Delicious chocolate and roasted flavor with a tangy hop ending. A lovely winter beer, representative of the dark winter beer tradition; also very pleasant out on the deck in July. Sledge Jr (2721), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Jul 26, 2008 In the bomber bottle from Seattle Bottleworks. Nearly a black color the sepia is so complete. Ecru-colored head. This has an aroma of molasses and apples. The flavor is a huge chocolate and a splash of roasted coffee. The body is medium, but not too thick or thin. Nice balance. Chunky sediment settles to the bottom of the glass. Residual finish consists of some nice hop bitterness leaving a dry mouthfeel. Good beer. CaptainCougar (4687), Rockville, Maryland, USA Jun 21, 2008 Pours a transparent dark copper with a nicely-lacing tan head. Aroma of fresh toasty dark caramel malts and molten dark chocolate with a touch of light fruity esters. Body starts with good toasty sweetness and earthy dark caramel chocolate flavors before a slightly drier, biscuity toasty semi-sweet finish. A pretty nice porter.
