COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This "imperial IPA" has a very strong hop aroma and flavor, however it isn’t as bitter as the Gale Force IPA. There is a strong malt backbone to offer a level of balance but with over two and a half pounds of hops per barrel it resonates hops from start to finish. With so much flavor happening you miss the 8.6% alcohol by volume so be careful when serving or drinking. Hops were added at every stage of the process...it was dry-hopped with chinooks for two weeks. 75 IBU’s. Hops: chinook, centennial, columbus, cascade, bullion.

Darkmagus82 (1827) - - DEC 18, 2014
Poured from bottle into a snifter Appearance – The beer pours a hazy golden orange color with a one finger head of pure white foam. The thick head has a good level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave rings of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the brew is heaviest of tropical fruits of tangerine and mango with some nice grapefruit hop aromas mixed within. Along with these smells comes some other aromas of caramel and brown sugar as well as some hop of a more floral nature. Taste – The taste begins with a sweeter and malty flavor with a decent level of caramel mixed with some tropical fruits of tangerine and mango as depicted in the nose. The hops upfront are lighter, with the strongest being more of an earthy nature. As the taste advances however, more hop joins the malty base, with the earth gaining just a hint of intensity all while a grapefruit and grassy hop taste grow quite a bit stronger. In the end, with the increase in hop mixing with the nice sweet and malty base, one is left with a thick and smooth, well balanced hop flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel- The body of the beer is on the slightly thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. For the mix of hops and sweeter malts the flavors are nicely accentuated by the feel and it makes for a nice drinker overall. Overall – Not overly hoppy but very well balanced and a quite easy drinking IPA for a double. A nice one to try if you get the chance.

Reid (1946) - Salem, Oregon, USA - DEC 16, 2014
22 oz bottle from Lifesource in Salem OR $3.99 Pours a burnt orange colour it is ever so slightly hazy and with a lovely big frothy white head. Good fresh floral and resiny hop aromas balanced by a huge amount of caramel scented malts. Taste supremely balanced with the hops barely emerging victorious, very PNW style IPA here. Mouth feel is OK gets a wee bit sticky and maybe a tad too much raw alcohol showing in the end. Good strong winter drink!

Bottle from Total Wines. Deep amber in colour, with a decent, off-white, head. Massive, rasping hops, with lemon fruits and an oily edge, before a dry finish. Ok.

Smells grassy, hoppy and slightly yeasty. Pours light amber and clear, off white head. Tastes of burnt malt, pine, grapefruit and melons. Heavy body, moderate carbonation, bitter. A well balanced imperial, not sweet and enjoyable.

Round, sticky, resinous DIPA. Quite dry in the finish actually, with some choice PNW hops. Quite mellow in some ways, as it certainly isn’t a shouty IPA.

Bottle. Wow, an assault on the palate all the way ... and I liked it. Ruddy, orange-brown, with a thin but resilient head. The aroma is rich with a thick, acidic syrup. This is certainly a fully-laden drink, muscular body, rich flavors of maple, citrus, grape, pine. Big time beer at a surprisingly low 8.6%. (#5731, 9/12/2014)

12oz bottle, purchased from Brennan’s in Madison during GTMW. Lot #8140609. Labeled 8%. Half hazy golden orange color. Finger of off-white head. Leaves good thicker lace. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, kind of soft, moderate strength carbonation. Lightly slick. Bigger bitter taste. Light zest. Light sweet. More dry finish. Big piney resiny aroma. That’s mostly what the hop is like. Little grapefruit. Not so bad, though, pretty enjoyable to sip on. Some light caramel malt. Enjoyable, assertively piney DIPA. What is bullion hop? Never heard of that one. Pretty damn bitter. A little more balance or aroma to match the intense bitterness would be nice.
