3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a clear, light amber with a frothy, off-white head. Aroma is malty and definitely not your typical DIPA. The aroma is dominated by caramel malt. Taste follows the nose but there is a decent amount of hop bitterness. Medium bodied. For a beer called hoptopia I expected a strong hop presence. This beer was disappointing but I suspect it wasnít fresh and will try again in the future when I can confirm I have a fresh beer.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Brewery Creek, Vancouver
Hazy golden to light amber color; medium sized compact head. The aroma of malt/caramel is dulled by a paper feeling. The body is leaner than expected; malt/caramel flavor with a feeling of paper and vegetables; relatively strong bitterness, with some resins and not much more hop qualities; light sweetness in the end.
Not bad, but it seems unfresh.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bottle from Total Wine in Cary, N.C. Light amber hue, murky clarity with fizzy mostly diminishing white head. Fair lacing. Light citrus (grapefruit) hop on the nose early on, but as it warms I got a strong malt aroma. Heavy bitter hop on the initial taste with an average light hop finish. More malt near the end of the experience. Fizzy carbonation on the palate. I would drink it again.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Moderate to heavy roasted and caramel for the malt, light to moderate cooked orange and dough for the hops and yeast, with date and sugar in the background. Head is small, frothy, off-white with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is murky medium tan/orange. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then the extra long finish is lightly sweet and acidic and heavily to harshly bitter. Palate is medium to full, oily with a soft carbonation and a heavily astringent and lightly alcoholic finish. Up front itís a bit maltier than most DIPAs, and the flavor and palate start off okay, but itís not at all balanced and the finish for both is a little rough.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle. Pours a mostly clear brown color with a moderate light tan head on it. Nose is quite malt forward, as you get a little subtle toasting along with some earthiness in this. Taste is a little sweet up front, and actually ends up feeling a little resiny. Not a great example.
