COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This "imperial IPA" has a very strong hop aroma and flavor, however it isn’t as bitter as the Gale Force IPA. There is a strong malt backbone to offer a level of balance but with over two and a half pounds of hops per barrel it resonates hops from start to finish. With so much flavor happening you miss the 8.6% alcohol by volume so be careful when serving or drinking. Hops were added at every stage of the process...it was dry-hopped with chinooks for two weeks. 75 IBU’s. Hops: chinook, centennial, columbus, cascade, bullion.

On tap at Cooper’s in Seattle.

Pours orange amber with quite a decent head for an IIPA; the aroma is a great big burst of floral and citrus hops, plenty of spruce tones and a hint of alcohol. The flavor more or less follows, with a powerful essence of hops that is rich and almost sweet in its floral intensity. The malts provide a reasonable caramel throughout, and the overall effect is a hophead’s delight of hop flavor without the sort of crashing bitterness that comes with some highly hopped IPAs and IIPAs. The palate is likewise rich, oily, almost syrupy, but the beer goes down quite easily, with little hint of the 8.6% -- certainly drinkable enough that I enjoyed polishing off a couple of pints in quick succession.

22 oz bottle from Lifesource in Salem OR $3.99 Pours a burnt orange colour it is ever so slightly hazy and with a lovely big frothy white head. Good fresh floral and resiny hop aromas balanced by a huge amount of caramel scented malts. Taste supremely balanced with the hops barely emerging victorious, very PNW style IPA here. Mouth feel is OK gets a wee bit sticky and maybe a tad too much raw alcohol showing in the end. Good strong winter drink!

Poured from bottle into a snifter Appearance – The beer pours a hazy golden orange color with a one finger head of pure white foam. The thick head has a good level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave rings of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the brew is heaviest of tropical fruits of tangerine and mango with some nice grapefruit hop aromas mixed within. Along with these smells comes some other aromas of caramel and brown sugar as well as some hop of a more floral nature. Taste – The taste begins with a sweeter and malty flavor with a decent level of caramel mixed with some tropical fruits of tangerine and mango as depicted in the nose. The hops upfront are lighter, with the strongest being more of an earthy nature. As the taste advances however, more hop joins the malty base, with the earth gaining just a hint of intensity all while a grapefruit and grassy hop taste grow quite a bit stronger. In the end, with the increase in hop mixing with the nice sweet and malty base, one is left with a thick and smooth, well balanced hop flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel- The body of the beer is on the slightly thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. For the mix of hops and sweeter malts the flavors are nicely accentuated by the feel and it makes for a nice drinker overall. Overall – Not overly hoppy but very well balanced and a quite easy drinking IPA for a double. A nice one to try if you get the chance.

Hazy orange with a bit of white head. Aroma is sweet with some citrus, and taste is the same, and relatively bitter and boozy. Kinda muddled and unremarkable $3/12oz

12 oz. bottle from Total Wine, Chesapeake, VA. Dark orange pour with a thin off-white head. Aroma of tangerine, tropical fruits, and light pine. Taste of bitter pine and spruce with grapefruit, tangerine, and pineapple. Lingering bitterness, alcohol well hidden. A good DIPA.

WHoa, wayyyyy too boozy for only 8%. Between the alcohol flavor and the stinging bitterness, i can tell you that this beer is not for me. there’s some earthy, pine flavors in there somewhere. I’m so glad that somebody left a bottle of this in the lobby and i didn’t pay money for it.

Interesting DIPA. It's a hop bomb, with a very high bitterness. But there's a slightly sweet malty undercurrent going on. I wouldn't say this is balanced per se, but I haven't tasted DIPAs that are so bitter and yet have discernible maltiness. Good. B. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
