COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This "imperial IPA" has a very strong hop aroma and flavor, however it isnít as bitter as the Gale Force IPA. There is a strong malt backbone to offer a level of balance but with over two and a half pounds of hops per barrel it resonates hops from start to finish. With so much flavor happening you miss the 8.6% alcohol by volume so be careful when serving or drinking. Hops were added at every stage of the process...it was dry-hopped with chinooks for two weeks. 75 IBUís. Hops: chinook, centennial, columbus, cascade, bullion.

Amber bodied with foamy beige head. Profusiion of mid- to heavy hop aroma. Humid, co-humulone is felt, but yet subdued. Woodsy and sharply floral. Overflowing with resin. Nice, sweet, floral hop resin. Full-bodied with well rounded bitterness. A swarthy brew. A glass full of summerís bloom.

Bottle. Dark golden, hazy, average and mostly lasting head. Moderate to full, malty and sweetish aroma, some caramel and light tropical fruitiness, some grapefruit - light piney hoppyneness, light alcohol.Body is medium, malty and lightly sweetish flavor, light caramel and tropical fruitiness, some grapefruit - light piney hoppyness, faint alcohol. Finish is average, malty and dryish, light caramel and faint tropical fruitiness, some grapefruit/piney hoppyness, light alcohol. OK hoppy and fruity aroma, but flavor/finish lacks fruitiness. Vacation 2011 - Seattle and Olympic National Park

8/20/2011: Scuttlebutt Hoptopia Imperial India Pale Ale... Aroma: Frush, juicy citrus, including grapefruit, tangerine, hints of pineapple and mango. Appearance: The color of honey, hazy; nice, bubbly beige head with spotty lacing. Flavor: Toffee maltiness overrun by tons of great hops; ample bitterness that grows throughout: citrus peel, orange, red grapefruit; just a touch of nice alcohol vents in the finish. Palate: Average. Overall: Very tasty!

1 pint 6 fl. oz. bottle (Alc. 8% by Vol.). Rating #42 for this beer.

Bold and bitter. Loaded with notes of grapefruit juice, orange rind, resin, perfume and wildflowers. Malts are toasty, with only a mild, toffee-like sweetness. Pungent, grassy and stem-like bitterness. If you can handle its rough edges, itís an OK double IPA.

maekchu (3460) - Hirakata, JAPAN - JUN 13, 2016
Bottle from World Beer Market (Sake no Taniguchi). Thick caramel nose, with big citrus (grapefruit) and pine. Hazy, near cloudy, gold leafy. Caramel, resiny hop (with a bit of burn), some spiciness, and long bitter tracks. Medium-heavy body, with rich and rough hop texture. Hides the alc. very well. Hop-heavy mixed up blend, but tasty and malty as well.

Elwood (3336) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - AUG 6, 2013
Serving: 12 oz. bottle from Total Wine Sterling. It pours a nice copper color with a short lived off white head. The nose has light tropical hop notes with a bit of citrus zing. The flavor is pretty subdued for a IIPA. There are notes of toasted brown bread, grapefruit, orange, and tropical fruit. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Middle of the road for the style, but not offensive in any way.
