COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This "imperial IPA" has a very strong hop aroma and flavor, however it isn’t as bitter as the Gale Force IPA. There is a strong malt backbone to offer a level of balance but with over two and a half pounds of hops per barrel it resonates hops from start to finish. With so much flavor happening you miss the 8.6% alcohol by volume so be careful when serving or drinking. Hops were added at every stage of the process...it was dry-hopped with chinooks for two weeks. 75 IBU’s. Hops: chinook, centennial, columbus, cascade, bullion.

12 oz. bottle from Total Wine, Chesapeake, VA. Dark orange pour with a thin off-white head. Aroma of tangerine, tropical fruits, and light pine. Taste of bitter pine and spruce with grapefruit, tangerine, and pineapple. Lingering bitterness, alcohol well hidden. A good DIPA.

WHoa, wayyyyy too boozy for only 8%. Between the alcohol flavor and the stinging bitterness, i can tell you that this beer is not for me. there’s some earthy, pine flavors in there somewhere. I’m so glad that somebody left a bottle of this in the lobby and i didn’t pay money for it.

On tap at Brouwer’s Hopfest 2010. Pours a bright golden orange. Big, citrus hops, lots of caramel malts - a really great balance overall. Very hop-forward, but not at all sharp or acerbic. Really tasty stuff.

Bomber. Unclear orange, fading off-white foam. Citrus floral herbal hoppy aroma. Bitter citric pine taste, spicy earthy herbal and floral hops mostly mask the faint c-malts. Average carbonation, medium bodied, aggressively hopped. Dry resinous harsh finish. Rough and unbalanced. DNFL (Definitely Not For Lagerboys)

UPDATED: JUL 28, 2011 22oz bottle, new to market today. Bottle lists abv at 8%. Pours a darker orange honey golden, clear with a slightly off white head that is on the creamy dense side and leaves behind some moderate lacing. Nose doesn’t lean one way or the other on the hop/malt side...mostly a sweeter fruit punch like aroma. Kind of full on the body and leans toward the slick side...not bad and works with the perfect carbonation. Fruity, touch of bittering, full malt...though doesn’t cross over the line by much, drinks easy and a good value at $4 for the bomber. Happy to support a local brewery and will go get some more while fresh. Could use a new label though...we don’t need any other Seattle area brewers using Pirates in their marketing.

Interesting DIPA. It's a hop bomb, with a very high bitterness. But there's a slightly sweet malty undercurrent going on. I wouldn't say this is balanced per se, but I haven't tasted DIPAs that are so bitter and yet have discernible maltiness. Good. B. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottled. Pours a dense dark gold with foamy white head. Big hoppy aroma. Big body with big bitterness. Minimal maltiness. Lasting hop flavor and bitterness. Okay IPA.

Draft, Beveridge Place. Orange pour with a white head. Aroma is sweet caramel malt aroma with some orange and tangerine citrus. Sweet brown sugar and citrus flavor with some piney resin giving it a bit of bitter bite. Too sweet for my taste when it comes to DIPAs.
