2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Moderate to heavy roasted and caramel for the malt, light to moderate cooked orange and dough for the hops and yeast, with date and sugar in the background. Head is small, frothy, off-white with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is murky medium tan/orange. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then the extra long finish is lightly sweet and acidic and heavily to harshly bitter. Palate is medium to full, oily with a soft carbonation and a heavily astringent and lightly alcoholic finish. Up front it’s a bit maltier than most DIPAs, and the flavor and palate start off okay, but it’s not at all balanced and the finish for both is a little rough.

big broom straw thru out the experience. hoppy a bit in the backround with grapefruit citrus. slick and a bit syrup like the brew is somewhat sweet which gives a candy like dimension to the grapefruit. some caramel in there.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours hazy light gold with a large creamy white head. Aroma of pine, grapefruit, pungent herb, some lemon. Taste has a nice amount of sharp lemony bitterness with some herbal tea leaf qualities. Long bitter finish, more than the Gale Force that I just had. Nice sweet bready malt balance. Good stuff. Better than expected after being let down by the Gale Force.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Round, sticky, resinous DIPA. Quite dry in the finish actually, with some choice PNW hops. Quite mellow in some ways, as it certainly isn’t a shouty IPA.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A decent double IPA. Pours a dark, malty looking toffee red with a heavy, dense off white head. Nice citrus and spicy hop notes up front with pine and grapefruit, caramel. Well balanced but very malty for my liking. Alcohol is laden on the finish

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Cooper’s in Seattle.
Pours orange amber with quite a decent head for an IIPA; the aroma is a great big burst of floral and citrus hops, plenty of spruce tones and a hint of alcohol. The flavor more or less follows, with a powerful essence of hops that is rich and almost sweet in its floral intensity. The malts provide a reasonable caramel throughout, and the overall effect is a hophead’s delight of hop flavor without the sort of crashing bitterness that comes with some highly hopped IPAs and IIPAs. The palate is likewise rich, oily, almost syrupy, but the beer goes down quite easily, with little hint of the 8.6% -- certainly drinkable enough that I enjoyed polishing off a couple of pints in quick succession.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz bottle from Lifesource in Salem OR
Pours a burnt orange colour it is ever so slightly hazy and with a lovely big frothy white head.
Good fresh floral and resiny hop aromas balanced by a huge amount of caramel scented malts.
Taste supremely balanced with the hops barely emerging victorious, very PNW style IPA here.
Mouth feel is OK gets a wee bit sticky and maybe a tad too much raw alcohol showing in the end.
Good strong winter drink!

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured from bottle into a snifter
Appearance – The beer pours a hazy golden orange color with a one finger head of pure white foam. The thick head has a good level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave rings of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is heaviest of tropical fruits of tangerine and mango with some nice grapefruit hop aromas mixed within. Along with these smells comes some other aromas of caramel and brown sugar as well as some hop of a more floral nature.
Taste – The taste begins with a sweeter and malty flavor with a decent level of caramel mixed with some tropical fruits of tangerine and mango as depicted in the nose. The hops upfront are lighter, with the strongest being more of an earthy nature. As the taste advances however, more hop joins the malty base, with the earth gaining just a hint of intensity all while a grapefruit and grassy hop taste grow quite a bit stronger. In the end, with the increase in hop mixing with the nice sweet and malty base, one is left with a thick and smooth, well balanced hop flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel- The body of the beer is on the slightly thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. For the mix of hops and sweeter malts the flavors are nicely accentuated by the feel and it makes for a nice drinker overall.
Overall – Not overly hoppy but very well balanced and a quite easy drinking IPA for a double. A nice one to try if you get the chance.
