3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: MAR 9, 2006 Bottle, 2004 vintage 12.9% courtesy of Larry Pitonka: Pours a murky mahogany with a thin, wispy off-white head. Has an enticing, rich, complex malty sweet aroma with dark fruity complexity, and some plum and caramel notes. Body starts thin with some mildly sweet dark caramel, a touch of brown sugar and dark fruits before a warming thin finish. Body and flavor are let downs based on the promise of the aroma. This is over-attenuated, but could otherwise be a nice beer.

Bottle 2005 @ OMH-tasting
Chocolate maltiness in aroma. Sweet, bitter and lightly sour, as in old ale. Warming alcohol. When warmed up thereís unfortunately a big appearance of apple skin. Without that it would have scored 4+. Now, Iím sorry, no hit.

3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bang! Smack! Kapow! This has a strong alcohol finish with a great aroma of raisins and prunes. Other aromas noted were dark brown sugar and molasses. But donít let those fool you - it still has a great bitterness expected in a barley wine. It had a little more carbonation than expected and the warmer it gets the mor syrupy it feels. This has a great soothing aftertaste. Take your time enjoying this one. Indiana_Red brought this one to my house along with his bling!

2005 Version: Marzipan, sweet, round, brown malty aroma with floral and perfumey tones. Clear mahogany brown with a shy ring of fine-bubbled tan head. Nutty, malty and roasty with sherry-like oxidation in the fairly boozey flavour. Alcohol becomes more dominant as it warms. Medium body with fair carbonation.
