3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Elwood (1834) - Between a rock and a hard place, Virginia, USA - AUG 19, 2011
Serving: 22 oz. bottle from Total Wine Sterling. It pours a very dark brown with a huge light tan head. The head is very active but well sustained. The nose is rather roasty with some underlying fruitiness and vanilla. The flavor is roasty and dry with that fruity vanilla note coming in on the back end. It kind of lingers on the tongue. A medium to long, almost acridic bitter finish. A bit unbalanced towards the roasted side and over carbonated. Serviceable I suppose.

typical color with a soft orange tinted tan head.
aromas of ash, roast, green herbaceous hops, a little wood and a touch of tartness on the finish.
the flavor is the same...tartness on the finish and lingering ash in the aftertaste.
crisp thinnish medium body. 6/3/6/3/14
3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 JFGrind (1552) - Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 29, 2011
Dark brown medium bodied porter, with chocolate, and roasted malts. Hops add a bit of pine to the overall flavor. I liked this porter from Scuttlebutt, decent flavor, drinkable, and perfect for summertime.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 hopscotch (7288) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JUL 11, 2011
Bottle… Pours dark brown and sits black in my glass with a large, pillowy, off-white head. Fantastic creamy retention. The aroma furnishes a wealth of fudge and brownie notes flanked by a hint of vanilla and a suggestion of toasted pistachios. Full-bodied with a lightly creamy mouthfeel and airy carbonation. The flavor is perfectly balanced and solid, but certainly less decadent than the nose. Quite roasty, a touch chocolaty and a smidge nutty. Finishes deeply roasted and mildly bitter. Impressive.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 hayduke (2445) - Eureka, California, USA - MAY 30, 2011
Draft at the Brewpub in Everett, WA. Came a dark brown with a tan head abd light lacing. Nose of roasted malts. Body a little light with mouthfeel somewhat thin as well. Flavor shows a little chocolate and it finishes bitter. Except for being a bit on the thin side, a quite decent tasting porter and would make a good session brew.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 TheBeerGod (3960) - Newport News, Virginia, USA - MAY 7, 2011
Bottle. Exploded upon opening. Tall frothy brown head atop a black body. Chocolate, ash, roasted malt and coffee int he nose. Taste is bitter coffee, bittersweet chocolate, smokiness/ashiness, bitter hops and roasted malt. Body is medium with a moderately strong carbonation. Finishes with more roasted malt, black coffee, oily coffee beans, and bittersweet dark chocolate.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 ucusty (2619) - Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA - APR 5, 2011
Black with a decent head. Good amount of roasted malt and chocolate in the nose. Taste doesn’t match the aroma. The roasted malts never show up and it’s just smooth with a bit of chocolate and bubbles. No substance body is thin. This beer is the classic example of the old bait and switch. Taste/aroma doesn’t match up the appearance
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 JCB (2918) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - MAR 28, 2011
Cheap ass bomber from Total Wine, Durham. Pour is decent, with a lustrous dark brown body and a crisp tan head that leaves modest lacing. Dark malts and dry hops in the nose, interestingly earthy. Mouthfeel could be considerably more lively, as this borders on heavy water. Taste, however, is where the beer really starts to fall apart. While there’s a drinkable porter somewhere in here, it seems like it almost wants to be infected, or to remind you of that one dude’s foot odor. Falls just short of either, thankfully, but also well short of a good porter.
