3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 mlunger12 (645) - Orlando, Florida, USA - FEB 28, 2011
22oz bottle, pours dark with a lighter lacing than I expected, it almost seemed amber coming out of the bottle, I get a great whiff of that roasty porter aroma I love. Sweet, but not overwhelmingly so. Quitw a bit bitter which overwhelms the other qualities, I’m getting a bit of roasted coffee on the back end, great mouthfeel, overall a very nice porter.

Dark chocolate and charcoal nose. Dark mahogany, medium beige, some lacing head. Charcoal and dry raisins. Ends ashy. Solid offering, but doesn’t stand out. Pretty good value for the price.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 jebert (407) - Watertown, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 2, 2011
Pours an opaque black with a thick light brown head. Nose is coffee and molasses. Creamy on the palate, the taste is coffee, dark roasted grain and a hint of hops on the finish. A better than average Porter that pairs well with smoked salmon or cheese on crackers.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 zizzybalubba (1155) - Elizabeth City, North Carolina, USA - FEB 1, 2011
22 oz. bottle from Total Wine in Norfolk, VA. Pours dark brown with a khaki head. Dark chocolate hits the nose first and is followed by light floral hops with hints of smoke and ash. Dark chocolate and coffee dominate the palate and the flavors are nicely balanced. This is a really well done example of the style.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Cybercat (2477) - Georgia, USA - JAN 29, 2011
Pours a rich, opaque sable with a thick, frothy, light tan head. Smoky, malty aroma has a firm overtone of molasses and hints of miso and coffee. Flavor has smoky, malty and nutty tones with hints of molasses and coffee and a bit of hoppy bitterness. Texture is smooth and fizzy, a teensy on the thin side but still good. Overall, not excellent but worth at least trying.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 ChainGangGuy (4123) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - JAN 26, 2011
22 ounce bottle - $3.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia. Bottle lists ABV at 5.5%
Appearance: Pours a very dark brown, near black body with a tall, foaming, light beige-hued head.
Smell: Roasty nose rounded out with notes of burnt grains, baker’s chocolate, anise, ashen coffee, and zested lemons.
Taste: Well-roasted malts dusted with licorice powder and given average-strength tastes of bittersweet chocolate and ground coffee. Faintly astringent. Lightly fruity, citrusy hops with a fine floral accent peering out from beneath the maltiness. Low bitterness. Hint of prune, then it transitions back to the roastiness until the dry, reasonably smooth finish.
Mouthfeel: Scuttlebutt Porter comes just shy of being medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: A basic porter that is basically good, getting the job done without any inherent vim or vigor.
