Our creamy porter is ideal for the dark beer connoisseur. It has a lightly roasted flavor with hints of chocolate and peat. A smooth finish and superb balance make it enjoyable going down. The secret to this beer is the extra aging. Even those just getting started with darker beers enjoy this one

Bottle. The pour was a very dark brown, almost black with an average sized (1-2 finger) light brown creamy head that was mostly lasting, but retreated finally to a thin foamy layer of residue producing some excellent sheets of lacing. The aroma was of a dark roasted malt and an earthy leathery yeast with notes of milk chocolate, coffee, some dark fruit and a hint of ash. The taste was mildly sweet and malty with notes of dark fruit and chocolate from the onset but got progressively mildly bitter with a good note of coffee and a touch of smoke at the end. The flavor lasted an average duration with the smoky coffee flavor left to linger on the taste buds. Mouthfeel was a solid medium in body and a bit watery yet still quite creamy in texture with a nice soft carbonation. Overall a good and solid Porter with a light fruitiness and a nice mild smoke presence at the end.

Poured from a bottle. Full marks on head (thick, long lasting), and color. Lacing was just average. Flavorful aroma, better than the taste. Coffee bean, chocolate, creamy, a bit chalky on the tongue.

22oz bottle. Pours black with a big chunky head that diminishes slowly. Pretty beer. Roasty and a bit bitter. Not as smooth or polished as the Blackstone Oatmeal that preceded it. Certainly drinkable, but a little rough around the edges.

On tap at Empire Ale House, pours a deep dark brown / black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out nice notes of cocoa, light roast and a touch of coffee. Flavour is quite roasted for a porter, with secondary notes of dry cocoa. Quite robust and full-flavoured despite being rather light on the palate. Very nice stuff.

Very bitter for a porter, roast grains bringing some stout like bitterness, almost black body supports a fluffy beige head. Burnt toast aroma leads into full on roast bitterness, overall body belies somewhat watery mouth feel.

Poured a dark mahogany brown with nice orange/red highlights. There was a tall creamy light brown head that left some light lacing. The aroma was predominately chocolate with some coffee and light roasted caramel malt. The texture of the beer was slightly thin. There was a good coffee presence in the flavor with a nice espresso bitterness developing into the finish that mellowed out nicely. Hints of caramel malt sweetness helped with the balance. This was a nice easy drinking beer, with good flavor, nice aroma and looked great in the glass. Enjoyable

Bottle from Total Wines. Near black in colour with a thin, tan, head. Roasty malts, a touch of dark chocolate, caramel sweetness, and a dryish finish with hint of lactic tanginess. Good.

Not rich enough to have with, say, a chocolate dessert, but stands well on it’s own. The feel is a little on the thin side, which is the only knock on the beer, and it’s really not that bad. The aroma is nice roasted malt, a touch of smoke, and hops, chocolate, coffee. Flavor similar but a little richer. Didn’t get it at first after a smores, but as the smores-layer in my mouth went away and the beer warmed, I dug the flavor, especially the roasted slight smokiness. "

Brun/noir. Belle surprise. Savoureux. Drôlement bien fait.

12oz bottle, from Brennan’s in Madison. Picked up during my stay for GTMW. Clear very dark brown, slight red color. Thin ring of khaki head. Few dots of lace. Medium body. Decent chewiness to it, good full mouthfeel. Smooth, kind of crisp lighter carbonation. Light slick finish. Good coffee, dark chocolate flavor. Light roast, hints of dark fruit. Moderate bitter taste, light to moderate sweet. Nice longer dark chocolate and coffee aftertaste to savor, pretty impressive flavor and body for the low ABV. Great porter to enjoy with my sandwich, turned out to be very swiggable. Finished it well before I finished my sandwich.
