COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pommeau is a still aperitif-style cider crafted by slowly fermenting hand-pressed Snow apples, whose Upper Canada origins date to the 1700’s. Potent yet refined, Pommeau provides a velvety mouthfeel and a rich smoky nose of cinnamon, apple and burnt sugar.

Hot to the palate and with a rich nose of dried fruit, Pommeau is a Canadian twist on the European tradition of blending fresh pressed apple juice with cider eau de vie. Raise a glass at Sea Cider where apples live the good life!

Boozy aroma with tart apples. The flavour is the same. Would work as a nice aperitif if you wanted something with less alcohol than most. It’s like a watered down Calvados.

Handbottle 10 cl. Courtesy of fiulijn. Pours a clear pale yellow. Interesting aroma, not particularly clean apple, more paint thinner! Light body, lightly sweet apple - although subdued - with a very boozy finish. 200412

Bottled. A golden cider. The aroma has notes of alcohol and apples. The flavor is sweet with notes of apples, alcohol, and spices - especially vanilla. The alcohol warms in the throat. Thanks fiulijn for sharing.

Corked bottle from Spinnakers Spirit Merchants, Victoria; 19% ABV
Yellow color, with beautiful legs. Light aroma of Calvados with a touch of anise. Full sweetness, the mouthfeel gains some balance by the strong alcohol presence, although this also gives a boozy note; some flavor of apple juice (no fruity freshness though), candies, cassonade, a hint of anise.
This is more similar to sweet Calvados than cider, but it’s a pleasant liquor.

Bottle, shared as a cesert pairing between 6 people. Nice light copper, long legs, no carbonation. Sweet brown sugar and apple open the palate, quickly overtaken by brandy-ish alcohol. Quite alcoholic, but smooth. Sweet and warming. Certainly more like a desert wine than a cider, but good for that very reason. I’ve not had any ice ciders yet, but I suspect that this leans toward that particular style.

375 ml bottle courtesy Capflu, sampled April 9, 2008. Fiery orange amber colour. Light apple, sherry, alcohol, and spice aroma. Very sherry-like - but not in a good way - lightly sweet apple flavour quickly overtaken by a mountain of heavily alcoholic cheap sherry. Full bodied, soft but slick mouthfeel. I like cider, and I like sherry. This was like a combination of the 2 with disastrous results. Reading the high ratings a year after my sample, I wonder if my bottle had some oxidation issues.

Gold amber. Aroma is alcohol, light apple in the background, honey. Taste is very sweet, apple, almond, slightly dry, alcohol, light toffee. Alcohol murdered the aroma but complimented in the taste.
