kidmartinek (673), austin, Texas, USA May 7, 2008 This is called a what beer and has no balls, I mean foam head. Palecopper in color. Totally see through, nice filtering job, seag dog. Was this not meant to be poured out of the bottle? Strong pure natural fruti raspberry smell. Tastes like raspberry flavored thick water with a little sugar added. Do you have any fucking idea how hard it is to brew a raspberry ale, much less a good tasting one, yes I do jackass. And this one is decent at best. Actually its above average. Bites like an american macro, finishes like one too. Too bad this thing is see through. Niixing them filters would have done wonders.... raspberry pulp, seeds and all. Yes I know.
unclemike (295), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA Aug 3, 2008 Pours with a deep golden body with reddish highlights. The head is thin and quickly disappears and no lace is left on the glass. Strong raspberry aroma with a malty wheat background. Strong raspberry flavor with hints of maltiness. Tastes like a raspberry soda. I guess if I wanted to get drunk on raspberry soda I would drink this stuff. Smooth and light bodied with a soda like feel GarrettB (382), Centennial, Colorado, USA Aug 1, 2008 I absolutely loved the Sea Dog Blueberry beer, and had high hopes that the Raspberry Wheat would live up to its brother’s good reputation. It begins with the thick white head and the light orange body, blushed with a little rose red. It’s more decorous than a wheat beer, but still plainly adorned. The aroma will be very familiar to drinkers of New Belgium’s Frambozen for some odd reason, though the Raspberry Wheat itself has a faint spritz of sugary raspberry that adheres well to the beer’s wheaty grain base. All this is quite lovely, except that crystallized sugar raspberry taste may be a little cloying. A sip or two and you can the impression your in a bath and beauty store. The raspberry flavor tries to push against the heavier, oppressive grain taste, but only enough to hint at the taste of extremely artificial, affected raspberries. It’s light and it’s floral, but chemically, and ultimately ends up tasting like a fruit scented shampoo. Once this industrial tap dance on the tongue is done, the flavor suddenly shifts to a dry wheatiness and then to a quick, effervescent aftertaste. I am sad to say that this in no way parallels the quality or applicability of the Blueberry beer from Sea Dog. Palate Good Mouthfeel, nice texture with a dry finish.
Overall A nice fruit beer. I would like to have had more fruit flavor for this style but it worked. Great for the hot night.
BelgianBeerGal (872), Sabbatical in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jul 18, 2008 Bottled. Refreshing fruit beer. Definitely not complex but fine for drinking in the hot summer. No real strong berry characteristics in the flavour or aroma, just lurking in the background. Could stand to be a little more bold. BrianDorry55 (7), Spring Hill, Florida, USA does not count Jul 15, 2008 Aroma was pretty weak for a fruit beer, but it did smell like sweet raspberries, just not as strong as I expected. Thick head that took a while to disipate. Color looked like commercial light beer. Flavor was also kinda weak, faint raspberries and well...wheat...not much of an aftertaste. Also very easy on the palate but not as much as the apricot, seemed to dry my mouth out a bit. Overall I guess it’s decent...but I probably wouldnt buy it again...The apricot is better.
