Aroma is of coffee, hazelnuts and vanilla. Taste of nutty chocolate, green apples and roasted barley malt. A dry finish with a little alcohol kick. Interesting. JK (2949), Richfield, Minnesota, USA

More vanilla in the flavor, and they weren’t lying about the hazelnuts because these are here in strength. A good beer. badgerben (3596), Blaine, Minnesota, USA

Big vanilla taste with more piles of hazelnuts. Dry finish. A little overkill on the nuts for my tastes, but not too shabby. BDR (2154), Roseville, Minnesota, USA

On the nose it smells like fresh brewed coffee and Nutella.Very good flavor with the roasted nuts being the most dominant.Coffee and choclate show up right after words.Nice body and it finishes like coffe does, slightly bitter. This would have to be my favorite out of all SeaDog and Shipyard brews. gnoff (3568), Göteborg, Sweden

Muddy chocolate nutty scent, also solvents. Spritzy sweet green apples and roasted malt taste. Spritzy high co2 mouthfeel. Medium bitterness. A bit sickening nutty sweet aftertaste. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 10, 2007 Bottle. I did not see any reference to hazelnut on the label before sampling it. Has a very distinct hazelnut aroma which I couldn’t put my finger on initially, calling it peanut butter chocolate. Very dark, reddish brown body that is mostly clear with bubbles. Large, light tan head. Excellent lace and decent head retention. Very hazelnutty flavor. Too dry and a little overly carbonated for a porter. beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 22, 2007 Not as much hazelnut comes through as the rogue hazelnut brown, but still a nice subtle addition that makes this porter unique. I got a lot of mineral flavor out of this beer, slightly metallic at times, which distracted from the sweet roasty flavors. Chocolate flavors blend well with the hazelnuts, with a good roastiness and milky flavor. Pours dark brown with a tan head that falls fast. Nice beer but the mineral flavors were a little distracting.
