Cletus (5002), Connecticut, USA Dec 5, 2006 Pours brown with a tan head. Smells of coffee, chocolate and soy sauce. Tastes of hazelnuts and sweet malt. Relatively well balanced. Foxbush (452), Richmond, Virginia, USA Nov 29, 2006 This Sea Dog Porter was a great experience. The aroma of hazelnut was pleasant and inviting. The jet black porter had a medium body. The hazelnut aroma would back up into your nose after every drink. There was a very thin head. I would have this again. sneagrams3 (1704), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Nov 26, 2006 12oz bottle. Mixed six from TJ’s. Brown and clear with a reddish highlight. Smokey vanilla aroma. Buttery vanilla diacytl. Blah! Burnt coffee and buttery popcorn. Slight cola note. Bad batch! LiebeBier (788), Annapolis, Maryland, USA Nov 21, 2006 Bottle - A dark brown color with a thin head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate. Flavor is decent with chocolate, nuts and coffee. Too thin and watery for me to really enjoy. tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Nov 14, 2006 Mildly nutty and chocolatey aroma is pleasant if unexciting. Opaque brown body with ruby highlights topped by a low off white head that recedes rapidly to ring. Butterscotch and caramel are strong with some suggestion of chocolate in the aftertaste. Light body is rather slick on the teeth with strong, sharp carbonation that slices the tongue and fills the belly. Sampled at Mondial 2006. DrnkMcDermott (1832), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA Nov 12, 2006 12 oz. bottle from Trader Joe’s. Hazelnut in a porter? Not too sure about that. Pouring shows a properly porter-colored beer, but with an anemic. I let the bottle sit open for a few minutes as the Bears took the lead away from the Giants… oh, wait, the Bears scored again as I type this… and I just picked up a basic beer smell. Taste is okay, though. A nice roasty malt with a touch of coffee. There is a bit of nut brown ale quality here, but I guess I really don’t know from hazelnuts. Turns out to be a nice beer, but needs a little backup at the finish… oops, the Giants just pulled back to within 4 points… shadey (1496), Rochester, New York, USA Nov 10, 2006 Black color with a dark cream thin layer. Aroma is nicely roasty. Flavor is dry and roasty The body is right for a porter. Good example of a standard porter. Blackbarrel (116), new york, New York, USA Oct 26, 2006 nutty, coffee, malt. A little wek, but theirs just enough complexity to compensate. Drinkable.
