Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA May 29, 2005 Brown with some red around the edges. Light cocoa aroma and a dull head. Taste is more cocoa powder with a medicinal taste. Nothing happening in this bottle. stoutchap (297), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 10, 2005 Poured dark brown, tall bubbly tan head. Great look. Interesting flavor, hard to peg at first, then decided it was burnt marshmallow. I didn’t know this was a hazelnut flavored beer until I got to the website. The note on the label was small, so I thought this was a standard porter. Very bitter finish - but fairly light mouthfeel. OK, will try again. lagermonkey (597), Marietta, Georgia, USA May 10, 2005 Best by October 2004 (reviewed Feb 2004)
Pours a dark ruby brown with a lacy brown head. Smells of roasted malt and sweet nutty aromas.
Taste is roasted dark malt, hints of coffee flavors and sweet chocolate. Hazelnut flavors underlying. Bittersweet finish. Smoky aftertaste. A really tasty and smooth porter. Prety good stuff.
tomciccateri (496), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA Apr 24, 2005 From 12-ounce brown bottle, pours an opaque dark brown with slight tan head. Intense hazelnut aroma. Full mouthfeel and medium body with a mild toasty character, slight chocolate notes, and even dry/sweet malty flavor balance. A unique porter that "grows on you." Now found in six-packs in Trader Joes grocery stores. Papsoe (14643), Frederiksberg, Denmark Mar 15, 2005 (Bottle 35,5 cl) Very dark, close to black. Low, brownish head. Very full and pleasant hazelnut flavour, very delicious - although the flavour is added albeit natural. Beer with added flavours is not a route we want to follow. Unfortunately this is very delicate. matta (1137), Tampa, Florida, USA Mar 4, 2005 Polar Beer Tour 2005
Had a couple pints at the SeaDog Brewpub in Topsham. This place is a must visit, BTW!
Poured with a hearty black ink body and a dollop of tan foam. The aroma and flavor bring forth a sensation of coco, coffee, and fragile notes of hazelnut, almond, and vanilla. This adds a beautiful underlying complexity to the beer. Simi sweet flavors, but coffee and coco are the beginnings of the finish… then the nutty notes of hazelnut. A wonderful offering!!! I wish I could get bottles of this Liquid Delicacy to share with my mates! Rockinout (945), Kent, Ohio, USA Feb 12, 2005 Translucent mahogany brown color, bitter coffee chocolate nose, hazelnut is there but not overpowering, which is good. Thanks Drew. lizzy (44), Saint Louis, Missouri, USA Feb 4, 2005 This is pretty good. The aroma is definitely coffee and sweet hazelnut. Tastes like coffee and nutty, hazelnut. Kind of sweet. Very good. Also a great value at $4.99 for a 6er.
