Butters (1622), Virginia, USA Apr 5, 2009 Shared with Barrios and Curly before going to play disc golf. Very dark brown pour with mahogany highlights and fading light tan head. Great nutty aroma with chocolate and toffee. Flavor is nice and roasty, slight metallic twinge, and some diacetyl. Lingering roast bitterness. Overall, a pretty good porter. Barrios (852), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Apr 5, 2009 Bottle from Butters. Smells nutty, roast, and chocolate. Pours a light tan head with light lace and a clear dark brown body. Tastes roasted, hazlenut, and some chocolate. Bit thin finish. djd07 (724), Houston, Texas, USA Mar 16, 2009 Bottle as shown. Pours a dark ruby with a medium frothy light tan head that lasts awhile. Good sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is a roasted malt with coffee and smoke. The taste is a roasted malt with caramel and a nice smoky dry finish. A good porter from Sea Dog. dkachur (2318), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Mar 12, 2009 12 ounce bottle from Vintage Cellar in Blacksburg, VA. Pours a very deep red color with a voluminous frothy head. Quite hard to pour, actually. Aroma is artificial hazelnuts with just a hint of roastiness. Taste is roasted malts, caramel and hazelnuts. The taste also comes across as artificial. patrick767 (2016), fort wayne, Indiana, USA Feb 27, 2009 bottle - Pours dark brown with a huge, lingering tan head. The aroma is really in your face hazelnut. I can make out a little roast malt in the background. The flavor was more hazelnut and very bland otherwise. It’s thin and has far too little roast malt character and nothing else besides those nuts. What are they thinking here? Not good. (weird, I just noticed I’ve had 3 Sea Dog beers and rated them all a 2.4 total. I guess they’re extremely consistent about not being good.)
jmikolich (405), Athens, Ohio, USA Feb 25, 2009 12oz bottle, Hazelnut slap me in the face... all i can really say... hazel in my face... nuff said. BeerVirgin72 (778), Pataskala, Ohio, USA Feb 22, 2009 Had on tap at Stogies and Stouts. The aroma of this beer was FANTASTIC. All roasted hazlenuts and coffe. The smell did not fully carry over to the flavor. Was a bit thin for me, hints of the hazlenuts and cream, and some chocolate and coffee. kiefdog (1567), Tampa, Florida, USA Feb 15, 2009 12oz bottle from Willow Bend Liquors (Tampa, FL). Pours a dark brown to black color with a one finger tan head that settles slowly and provides minimal lacing on the glass. Aroma is sweet and malty with an artificial and strong hazelnut aroma along with other notes of chocolate, spice, coffee and some hints of honey and caramel. Flavor is malty and spicy with strong notes of bitter nuts and some smoky burnt coffee and chocolate flavors. Medium body with a quick uninteresting finish. Not good. Maybe I should not have drank this beer after a Deschutes Black Butte Porter. . . ..
