timsilvia32 (445), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Nov 20, 2008 Brown pour with a whitish head. Roast malt, earthy aromas. Hint of the hazelnut. Light roasted malt flavors, some mocha accented with the nuttiness. A little lighter bodied than I would like. Clean finish. Something different in a porter, which is nice to see. Worth a try. joergen (8429), Frederiksberg, Denmark Nov 20, 2008 Bottle at Svea, Malmö.
Clear brown coloured with a small off white head.
Sweet and light roasted aroma of hazelnuts and nougat.
Light roasted flavour of hazelnuts and nougat with notes of chocolate and hops.
Hoppy finish.
The hazelnuts are much too dominating. Oakes (8057), gone rambling, Vietnam Nov 19, 2008 Chestnut brown. The aroma is nutty but artificial with some cheap coffee roastiness. The roast dominates the palate, though there are also some chocolate accents and light nuttiness. More bitter, balanced that I had expected. Thin body, however, still gives the impression of cheap coffee with that revolting hazelnut syrup in it. sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Sep 24, 2008 Updated: Mar 5, 2009Tap @ OTH. 5.8% abv listed.
Pours light black with brownish head.
Aroma is roasted, coffee.
Taste is roasted, coffee malts, leaving a little espresso / nutty aftertaste, light dark fruit notes. Light hoppy notes.
Updating this one 3-5-2009.
Bottle, and the aroma of hazelnut is so much more present than what I got in the tap version, artificial but drinkable.
Simple, but tasty, score is the same. KimJohansen (6645), Copenhagen V, Denmark Sep 19, 2008 Dark brown with large beige head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, chocolate and caramel. Sweet flavour with roasted malt, chocolate and a somewhat dry hoppy finish. fidel (884), Livermore, California, USA Sep 13, 2008 Updated: Oct 4, 2008Dark brown, cola, dark chocolate, nutty, chocolate, roasted malts, little caramel. nbutler11 (729), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Aug 22, 2008 Pours exactly like Coca Cola--dark mohogonay with a tan head of foam that won’t quit. Plenty of hazelnut and charcoal on the nose that mellow in th flavor. There’s a slight bitterness in the beer that tastes like the shell of hazelnuts. Plenty of sediment in this one, but the result isn’t quality. GreatLibations (1440), Last Supper, Arizona, USA Aug 21, 2008 Pours like coffee with a tall head that reduces to a silky canopy. Decent hangtime. Aromas of toasted cocoa. Nice! Medium nectar with good carbonation. Defined hazelnut essence combined with roasted coffee bean and cocoa ride this one out for an early morning get me goin’. The finish bitters up appropriately leaving behind a mocha java flavor. Good beer!
