Jun 30, 2008 (bottle, thanks Lawstudent09!) Pours black with an off-white head. The aroma is pretty bizarre, I smelled a lot of caramel corn along with the hazelnut, but it wasn’t offensive. The taste really didn’t hold anything but some light chocolate flavor which yielded to an astringent finish of dark roasted malt. Mouthfeel was pretty thin.

Dec 18, 2004 Dark poor with some nice tan foam and a bit of lacing. Coffee undertones and a touch of hazelnut in the after taste.

Mar 31, 2006 [tap @ Strangebrew 3/31/06] Pours a near black color, with a thin head. Aroma is mostly coffee, slight malts. Flavors are again, mostly roasted coffee and malts- very little hazelnut character to speak of. Not quite what I expected.

Dec 26, 2006 Pours pretty much black with a decent off white head. Aroma is very nutty with a light mix of coffee and chololate. Flavor is bitter roasted nust and mild coca. Seemed a little watery.

Mar 21, 2006 Pours deep garnet with a small off-white head. Remarkably non-opaque. Excellent milk chocolate aroma, with the hazelnut coming in strong with the second sniff. Some toast and nuts. Very good Porter flavor somewhat ruined by a touch of hazelnut. The beginning is roasty, with the hazelnut coming in not long after. The finish is nicely bitter, with lingering almond. Would be better without the extra flavoring (and with a little more roastiness), but still good.

Aug 9, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a 1/2" beige head. Aroma is hazelnut, chocolate and roasted malts. Decent body with average carbonation. Flavor is chocolate, toffee, nuts, all with a hazelnut background. Quite differant.

Sep 9, 2007 $8.59 for a six pack at Broudy’s. Aroma is hazelnuts and nut brown ale.. Flavor is malty nut brown ale for an instant, then quickly washed over by astringent, metallic hops which finishes with a slight bitterness. How this can be described as smooth and creamy is beyond me.. It didn’t taste the least bit smooth or creamy to me. Somewhat watery. Very little sweetness. Most defining characteristic is the sharp astringency of the Willamette hops. I wouldn’t buy this again.

Jul 31, 2002 Nice roasty aroma. Decent body...not as thin as a lot of porters. Finishes dry. An enjoyable porter.
